COUNTY GEARS UP FOR VEHICLE FEE

Dunn County is considering adopting a vehicle registration fee as part of its 2020 Budget. The fee, which has been recommended by the Executive Committee of the County Board, would be $20 per qualifying vehicle registered in the County. Qualifying vehicles would include cars, vans and SUVs that are designated as passenger vehicles, along with trucks under 8,000 pounds, which are registered to an address anywhere within the County.

Trucks registered at more than 8,000 pounds or as “Farm” would
be exempt, as would be buses, motorcycles, and motor homes. Based on an estimate from the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles of 36,300 vehicles, the fee could generate approximately $726,000 per year.

If approved by the Dunn County Board at its meeting on November 12, 2019, the fee would take effect starting in 2020.
