HSHS Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s Hospitals are formally affiliating with OakLeaf Clinics.  The two organizations have had a partnership with each other for several years.  The legal move will allow the organizations to provide “strong and seamless care for patients.”

LEAVE IT TO EVERS

Governor-elect Tony Evers says he will follow new laws curbing his powers.  Evers indicated this yesterday, only a day after saying he would not do so.  The incoming Democratic governor said he thinks he would be sued by those trying to force him to follow the laws if he rebelled against them.  Lawsuits challenging the provisions are expected.  MEANWHILE, Governor-elect Tony Evers is filling out his cabinet.  Former Obama official Andrea Palm will serve as health secretary.  State Representative Peter

WI DRUG TAKE BACK HITS RECORD NUMBERS

Attorney General Brad Schimel announced Wisconsin collected a record-breaking 68,016 lbs. of unused medications at drug disposal boxes and October Drug Take Back events. Wisconsin collected more unused medications than 48 other states, including beating Texas and only falling in second place to California.  Since 2015, Wisconsin has collected and disposed of 469,785 lbs. of unused and unwanted medications.

RISE AND BRINE!

Officials with the highway department in Outagamie County hope a new road treatment will be an effective defense against snow and ice.  The highway department recently started to use brine to treat roadways and says it was effective during recent snows.  The brine is a very salty liquid which takes action faster than road salt.  It’s designed to melt ice immediately.  Outagamie officials say they’d like to make the full transition from road salt to brine-only to treat the roads.

H2-OH NO! WATER INTERRUPTED IN WAUSAU

A water main break is leaving some Wausau residents without their H2O.  A Facebook post this morning said the main broke in the one-thousand-block of Henrietta Street and has closed the road at 10th and Henrietta.  Crews are working on repairs, but there hasn’t been a timetable as to when water service will be restored.

TREU FACING CHARGES IN DEADLY HIT AND RUN

The man accused of running over and killing a group of Girl Scouts and a mother in Lake Hallie is facing new charges.  WEAU reports 21-year-old Colten Treu was charged with four drug possession charges and another operating with a restricted controlled substance in blood charge yesterday in a separate crime that allegedly happened in Rusk County about a month before the deadly crash.  Treu is charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle in Chippewa County in the

CVTC TO PARTNER WITH ECSD

Chippewa Valley Technical College is partnering with the Eau Claire School District to help high schoolers graduate with an associate degree in business management.  The Leader-Telegram reports starting in the fall, a four-year program will be offered to freshman at both North and Memorial High Schools that will help them graduate with the degree.  Eau Claire is the second city that CVTC is offering the program in the area.

DNR ON THE HUNT FOR ETHICS AWARD NOMINEES

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is asking for nominations for its Hunter Ethics Award.  The DNR says the award is given every year to someone who exemplifies good behavior and values that represent all hunters in the state.  Nominations must be emailed to DNR Chief Conservation Warden Todd Schaller by January 15th.  The award will be given out sometime in February.
