JUDGE THROWS THE HOMEWORK BOOKS AT LOCAL CRIMINAL

A young man in Eau Claire is getting a homework assignment instead of a jail sentence.  A judge yesterday sentenced Jared Beaulieu to write two essays, one on making Eau Claire a better community and another on integrity.  Beaulieu pleaded guilty to a lesser charge after breaking into a gas station and Dairy Queen back in December.

REWARD OFFERED IN POISONING CASE

A reward is being offered for information on multiple dog poisonings in northern Wisconsin.  Authorities are offering a cash reward to anyone who can supply information that leads to an arrest.  Three family dogs and several other wild animals have been poisoned by the same substance, which is an unknown poison.  The dog deaths were reported in Bayfield, Marinette and Florence counties.

WI NATIONAL GUARD INVESTIGATING SEXUAL ASSAULT COMPLAINTS

The National Guard’s special investigations office is taking a look at sexual assault complaints inside the Wisconsin National Guard.  The National Guard Bureau’s Office of Complex Investigations this week said it’s going to explore allegations against a Madison-based unit.  Wisconsin Guard commanders say they’ve found 52 reports of sexual assault from 2013 to 2017.

TITLETOWN PREPARES FOR TRUMP

President Trump is coming to Green Bay, and the city is trying to get ready.  Ashwaubenon Public Safety says they will be closing several roads ahead of tomorrow’s rally at the Resch Center.  The doors open at 4 p.m., and the rally starts at 7 p.m.  Police are asking people for patience as they get to and from the rally.

WI LEGISLATURES STIR THE POT

Walking around with small amounts of marijuana will still be a crime in Wisconsin.  Republicans at the Capitol in Madison yesterday said they will not move forward with Governor Tony Evers’ plan to decriminalize small amounts of pot.  Budget architect State Senator Alberta Darling said the governor’s plan is ‘off the wall.’

ARCADIA SCHOOL RECEIVES THREATS

Police are continuing to investigate threats that were sent to several students at Arcadia High School.  The district administrator says the students got threatening emails yesterday morning but the messages came from a student not in the school district.  That school district was notified as well as police and it was determined there was no immediate threat.

WOMAN AVOIDS JAIL TIME IN METH BUST

An Eau Claire woman who was arrested after a methamphetamine sting is avoiding jail time.  If you happen to see the news, they you likely saw that WQOW reports Anne Zezulka and three other people were charged after an informant bought meth from them twice earlier this year.  The suspected meth ended up being rock salt in one of those cases.  In Zezulka’s case, she was sentenced to three months on probation and had a six-month jail sentence stayed.  Two

WI STATE REP PASSES AWAY

A former Wisconsin state representative has passed away.  Reports say Ed Brooks recently died at the age of 76.  Brooks was a longtime dairy farmer and served several terms in the Legislature over the course of ten years.  Brooks’ funeral will take place at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rock Springs at eleven o’clock Monday morning. SPECIAL TO FEATURE ABDUCTION SURVIVORS

A woman who was abducted in 2002 is having a TV special where she and other abduction survivors will discuss the Jayme Closs investigation.  Elizabeth Smart has previously spoken in support of Closs.  Reports say she will star on Smart Justice, discussing the challenges faced by abduction survivors including Closs.  Smart will also be in Wisconsin during the special and speak to people who were involved in the Closs case.  The program airs at seven o’clock Saturday night on Lifetime.

UW BLUEGOLDS GO GREEN WITH FARMERS MARKET

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is celebrating a first-ever event on campus.  Yesterday afternoon Blugold Dining held its first UWEC spring farmer’s market where students were able to buy fresh vegetables and fruit from local farmers.  There’s no word on whether or not there will be another market this year but organizers say they want to make it a yearly event.
