GINSENG FESTIVAL WILL ROOT AGAIN IN 2022

The Wisconsin Ginseng Festival will be postponed for two years.  Officials made the announcement this morning that the international festival will not be held this year or next but will return in 2022.  They say concerns about the coronavirus and difficulties in securing travel arrangements prompted the decision.  Officials also say it will allow farmers to concentrate on their growing at home.

RIVER LEVELS COULD RISE THIS WEEK

The creep up the thermometer feels great, but it also means we now pay attention to melting. Recent snow melt and forecasted rainfall this week in the upper Chippewa River watershed is likely to result in increased runoff and some rising waters. At 6 a.m. today the Chippewa River gauge at Grand Avenue read 760 feet. This is 13 feet below the downtown flood stage, but at this level is approaching Action Stage and may require the closure of some lower lying

Mt. La Crosse Ski Resort is officially closed. The ski resort closed for the 2020 season yesterday. The resort says rain and upcoming warm temperatures helped make the decision. The resort also says the Pro Shop will stay open for a few more weeks to help people get ready for spring ski trips.

MAN FACING CHARGES AFTER STALKING EX

A western Wisconsin man is looking at charges after police say he used a GPS device to stalk his ex. Prosecutors in La Crosse filed the charges last week. Investigators say 41-year-old Matthew Robinson from West Salem put the GPS in his ex’s car, then followed her. The ex called police after he showed-up at a friend’s. The ex says there is no way Robinson would have known she was there.

MAN DIES IN SNOWMOBILE ACCIDENT

There are not a lot of details about the snowmobile accident that left a Langlade County man dead. It happened Saturday morning in the Township of Upham. The Langlade County Sheriff’s office says the victim, a 61-year-old man, was operating the snowmobile by himself when the accident occurred.

Eau Claire Police are talking with parents about internet safety. Officers say there have been two cases so far this year of sex offenders ‘misusing’ the internet. Officer Bridget Coit says it’s important for parents to know what their kids are doing online, and to make sure kids know what they are doing online as well. Coit says a simple conversation with your kids can go a long way.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Today is International Women’s Day.  The occasion marks female achievements as well as the challenges women still face. The United Nations officially recognized the day back in 1977 although historians attribute the first International Women’s Day to an event in Russia on March 8, 1913.  The U.N. says this year’s theme is “I Am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights.”

ANNND, THEY’RE OFF!

The Iditarod Sled Dog Race kicks off today in Alaska.  The ceremonial start of the annual race was held yesterday in Anchorage.  Spectators took photos with the mushers and got to pet some of the 800 sled dogs participating in the race.  The actual race starts today north of Anchorage in Willow, where over 50 competitors will travel nearly one-thousand miles to the town of Nome.  Organizers say mushers will face epic amounts of snow along this year’s trail.
