Today is International Women’s Day.
The occasion marks female achievements as well as the challenges women still face. The United Nations officially recognized the day back in 1977 although historians attribute the first International Women’s Day to an event in Russia on March 8, 1913.
The U.N. says this year’s theme is “I Am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights.”
