A pint of blood will be enough to send someone to the Super Bowl. The Northwest Wisconsin chapter of the American Red Cross is offering blood donors a chance to get to the big game. From now through Sunday, anyone who donates blood will be entered for a chance to win two Super Bowl tickets plus airfare to Miami, a hotel room, and 500 dollars in spending money. The Red Cross hopes the offer is enough to end its blood shortage.

Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Pete Buttigieg all tie President Trump in head-to-head match-ups in Wisconsin. The latest Marquette Law School Poll shows Wisconsin is too close to call. Biden leads the president 49-45, and Sanders has a 47-45 lead. But both contests are within the poll’s margin of error. President Trump has similar small leads over Warren and Buttigieg. The Marquette Poll does say that President Trump’s disapproval rating in the state is under 50 percent for the first time.

Wisconsin isn’t changing the training requirements for nursing assistants in the state. The State Assembly yesterday didn’t have enough votes to overturn Governor Evers’ veto of a plan to chop 45 hours of training off the state’s requirements. State Rep. Jim Steineke said going from 120 hours of training to the 75 hours that the federal government requires could help solve the state’s nursing shortage. Democrats, however, said the solution is higher pay for nurses and not less training.

There are some statistics raising concern for Sauk County Health Department officials.  The department said today it’s seeing a spike in opioid overdoses since early last month.  The overdoses could be caused by prescription painkillers, but there is an increasing problem of heroin cut with fentanyl which is causing deaths across the country.  Health officials urge people to get trained to recognize suspected overdoses and learn what to do in that situation.

At this event, members of the Veterans Tribute Foundation will provide an update on their plans for the Veterans Tribute Trail. This event will take place on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 from 6–8PM at the River Prairie Center. The River Prairie Center is located at 1445 Front Porch Place, in Altoona.

One person is dead from a garage fire in Monroe County.  The county sheriff’s office says the fire broke out in the Town of Oakdale near Tomah Monday and 49-year-old Richard Siess was found dead inside.  The sheriff’s office says it got a call from Siess’ wife when the fire started saying her husband might be inside.  Foul play isn’t suspected.

A semi truck is destroyed after catching on fire in Chippewa County Monday night.  Volunteer firefighters say the truck caught fire on Highway 29 right in front of the fire station in Wheaton.  Because of this, firefighters were able to get to the fire quickly and keep about 80-thousand pounds of oil from spilling and igniting.

One candidate is out of the race for Onalaska mayor.  Robert Muth dropped out of the race Tuesday morning and announced he’s endorsing Jim Binash.  Binash is taking on Terry Bauer and interim Mayor Kim Smith.  The primary is on February 18th and will narrow down the field to two candidates.
