The organizers of the corn maze at Govin’s Farm are working this year to help raise awareness for suicide prevention.  Farm owner John Govin over the weekend showed off his efforts which include inviting guests to write the name of loved ones on luminary bags which are used to line the maze.  Govin said he hopes the bags will show that each name has a story, and everyone who sees them will know they have a place in the world. 

Family Promise of Chippewa Valley are thanking those who participated in their annual Hike for the Homeless over the weekend.  The two-and-a-half-mile walk was held on Saturday at Phoenix Park in Eau Claire with an estimated 200 people participating.  Family Promise says the money raised will go to help families in need through the Beacon House shelter.  Family Promise Executive Director Amy Giani said a lack of affordable housing in the Eau Claire area is a main contributing factor to

The first ever CBD Madison conference is drawing attention to the health benefits of the popular hemp-based extract.  The event featuring more than a dozen vendors took place over the weekend in Breese Stevens Field.  Sponsors included Green Owl, Green Barn Door and other CBD suppliers along with a CBD oil infused yoga class with OrthDX Natural Fitness. 

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos is asking Governor Tony Evers to reschedule a congressional special election to avoid a conflict with the Jewish holiday, Hanukkah.  Vos said in a letter on Friday that if the election to fill the Seventh Congressional District seat were to be held on January Seventh as scheduled, then the primary would fall on December 30th, which is the last day of Hanukkah.  The Governor has not yet responded.

Eight Wisconsin schools are on the 2019 National Blue Ribbon list.  The list announced yesterday is selected by the U.S. Department of Education and recognizes educators, families and communities that create safe and welcoming schools where students are challenged academically.  Bayfield Elementary School in Bayfield, Cedar Hills Elementary School in Oak Creek, Lakeview Technology Academy in Pleasant Prairie and Marcy Elementary in Menomonee Falls all made the list.  They are joined by Star Center Elementary in Lake Geneva, Tiffany Creek Elementary School

The average cost for regular gas in Wisconsin is down two-cents-a-gallon compared to a week ago.  Triple-A says the average price statewide is two-dollars-and-55-cents today, while nationwide it’s a dime higher at two-65.  The highest prices in the state are posted in northern Price County at two-83 and the lowest price at the pump is found in Milwaukee and Rock counties at two-43-a-gallon today.

As temperatures drop, bats and other animals often look for a new home indoors. This increases the chance for bats to have accidental contact with our family members and household pets (even our mostly “indoor” pets). A bicyclist is dead after being hit by a car in Polk County.  The county sheriff’s office says the bicyclist rode out of a driveway onto Highway M near Mulligan Drive in Osceola yesterday morning when they were hit.  The driver reportedly said the bicyclist pulled out in front of  her and she couldn’t see him until it was too late.  The victim later died at the hospital.

An Eau Claire mobile home has heavy damage following a fire early this morning.  Reports say the fire broke out around three o’clock in the 49-hundred block of Olson Drive in the Cozy Acres Mobile Village.  Crews arrived to find the home covered in smoke and flames.  No one was home at the time so no one was hurt.
