WI LOOKS AT BILL TO HELP WITH DYSLEXIA

Wisconsin students who struggle with dyslexia could be getting some help soon.  The state senate this week passed it’s first-ever bill directed at addressing the condition.  If the governor gives his approval, the bill will create a guidebook to help educators and families identify and deal with dyslexia.

WI SEES DIP AT THE PUMP

The cost for regular gas in Wisconsin is down three-cents-a-gallon compared to a week ago.  Triple-A says the average price statewide is two-dollars-and-39-cents, while it’s two-53 across the country.  Drivers in Madison are paying two-35 and in Milwaukee, two-38.  In neighboring Illinois drivers are paying a Midwest-high two-65 for a gallon of regular gas.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG BUST IN SAWYER CO.

A traffic stop leads to a drug bust in Sawyer Co. It was on January 24th at 10:40 a.m. when a Sawyer County Deputy conducted a traffic stop near the Village of Stone Lake on a tan Chevrolet Blazer because the driver, 34 year old James Q. A. Griffin, was not wearing his seat belt. While the Deputy completed the seat belt violation citation, another Deputy arrived and utilized his K-9 partner, Trace, who alerted to the presence of drugs

MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH IN BARRON CO.

On Friday, January 24th at 5:15 in the morning a 4-vehicle crash happened on Hwy 53 north of Hwy 8. A truck lost control and struck a guard rail. Two semi-trucks traveling north collided with each other to avoid this crash and a vehicle that was travelling behind the semi-trucks could not stop in time and stuck the back of one of them. SPEED A FACTOR IN 2 SNOWMOBILE CRASHES

On Monday, January 20, just before 10 pm. on trail 33, a snowmobile operating by Jesse Andrews of Rice Lake struck a tree. Andrews was flown to an area hospital with what appeared to be a broken leg. Excessive speed was a contributing factor on this case. TURTLE LAKE MAN PLEADS GUILTY

A Turtle Lake man is pleading guilty to possessing child pornography.  Reports say Adam Rhodes recently pleaded guilty to one charge and had eleven other charges thrown out.  Rhodes is accused of having over 30 images of child porn on his electronic devices.  He’ll be sentenced in April.

UW BOARD OF REGENTS RESIGNATION

A member of the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents has resigned.  Gerald Whitburn announced his immediate resignation Thursday, meaning Governor Tony Evers will get to choose his replacement.  Whitburn was appointed by former governor Scott Walker in 2011 and was in the middle of a second term that would’ve lasted through 2025.

DNC CALLS FOR 4AM LAST CALL

Partiers at the Democratic National Convention could be able to grab a drink til 4 a.m. this summer. Lawmakers are considering a proposal that would change when bars in the state would have to close. Right now, last call in Milwaukee is at 2 a.m. The head of Visit Milwaukee, Peggy Williams-Smith, yesterday said wants to push that back. She says other DNC host cities have kept their bars open til 4 a.m. to accommodate the convention crowds.
