The State Department of Health is now reporting the number of people who have recovered from the coronavirus and not just those who have died.  The virus has claimed nearly 260 lives in the Badger State.  The number of recovered patients is over 23-hundred.

SAFER AT HOME ORDER SPARKS DIFFERENT REACTIONS

Protesters for and against Wisconsin’s Safer At Home order are making their voices heard.  Demonstrators have been at the capitol today carrying signs reading “Open Wisconsin.”  Counter protesters carried signs reading Reopen Kills.  In other parts of our state, away from the Capitol, people who violate the state’s stay at home order may be fined by the City of Green Bay.  Police say people can walk their dogs and take out the garbage and go grocery shopping.  But hanging out in groups

FILL UP GOES DOWN

 The cost for regular gas in Wisconsin is down another six-cents compared to a week ago. Triple-A says the average price statewide is a-dollar-19 today, about 60-cents a gallon lower than a month ago.  The national average is one-78.  Drivers are paying 98-cents-a-gallon in Appleton, one-15 in Fond du Lac, one-oh-two in Green Bay, a dollar-14 in Madison and one-dollar in Oshkosh.

SAFER AT HOME ORDER UNDERWAY

Governor Evers Safer at Home order started this morning. Effective at 8 a.m., some non-essential businesses are allowed to reopen. The order says golf courses can re-open with some restrictions and public libraries can begin curbside service. State republicans filed a lawsuit with the Wisconsin State Supreme Court to block the order, and officials say the court started reviewing the case last night.

POOL CLOSING MAKES SPLASH

A summer staple isn’t opening this year. La Crosse Parks and Recreation yesterday announced they’re canceling the 2020 aquatic season at the Veterans Memorial, North Side Community, and Erickson pools. The department says they were concerned with safety and staffing, and opening the pools requires weeks of preparation, so the decision is not likely to change. Officials say they still plan to maintain and open the city’s splash pads and public beaches when it is deemed safe to do so.

A free Chippewa Valley Rotary Club event is cancelled this year. The Chippewa Valley After Hours Rotary Club cancelled Taste of the Valley yesterday. Officials say the event originally scheduled for June 7th at Phoenix Park was cancelled due to concerns about public safety amid the COVID-19 pandemic. EVERS TALKS MATH BEHIND WI NUMBERS

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers is injecting some math into the conversation about when Wisconsin can reopen. The governor yesterday said the state expects to see more positive coronavirus cases as more people are tested. He said the key will be the percentage of people testing positive, not just the raw number of cases. ALL WI CONGRESS MEMBERS ON BOARD

Every single one of Wisconsin’s members of Congress is on-board with the plan to restock the Paycheck Protection Act. The House yesterday nearly unanimously approved the plan to add 321 million-dollars to the program designed to help small businesses pay their workers and keep themselves afloat during the coronavirus outbreak. Western Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind says the new program will ‘fill-in the gaps’ from the original paycheck program.

FOXCONN MAKES FACE MASKS

We haven’t heard much about the status of Foxconn lately, but now face masks are the first things to roll off the assembly line at Foxconn’s plant in Mount Pleasant. Governor Tony Evers yesterday said the company donated 100-thousand face masks to the state. The governor has been critical of Foxconn and its agreement with the state in the past. Foxconn is still working to make ventilators at the Mount Pleasant plant as well.
