INCIDENT SENDS 2 TO HOSPITAL

On Tuesday, February 18, just before 10 in the morning the Buffalo County Communications Center received multiple 911 calls of an assault that took place at 8630 Weisenbeck Road in the Town of Nelson, which is near Urne. Initial investigation has indicated that two males were assaulted and have sustained significant injuries. Both injured persons were transported via air ambulances. POLICE LOOKING FOR SUSPECTS AFTER SHOOTING

Police are on the lookout for two people believed to have been involved in a shooting in Abbotsford, about 65 miles east of Eau Claire.  Police say Joennval Moctezuma-Torres and Carlos Santiago-Gonzalez were seen with handguns leaving the scene of the shooting Sunday.  They’re accused of shooting a man in Abbotsford and he later showed up at a hospital in Medford.

MORE CHARGES FOR REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER

A registered sex offender is charged with more sex crimes in Eau Claire County.  Police say the victim told officers Christopher Seeley assaulted her while she slept on January 25th.  An examination later connected Seeley to the crime.  Seeley’s charged with second-degree sexual assault and burglary.  He was convicted of other sex crimes in Eau Claire County in 1999 and 2005. VIRTUAL SCHOOL COULD EXPAND

The Eau Claire School Board is considering expanding its virtual school.  Reports say a new proposal would add a combined fourth and fifth grade class to the program starting next school year.  The proposal would also increase the number of students enrolled in 6th through 12th grade.  The board will vote on enrollment numbers next month.

TAX CUT COULD HIT SNAG

The Republican income tax cut bill passes through the Wisconsin state joint finance committee.  The committee approved the bill Monday, which aims to cut the average person’s income tax by over 100-dollars.  The plan will still likely hit a snag.  Governor Tony Evers wants to spend Wisconsin’s surplus tax revenue on education and reduced property taxes and he’ll likely veto the bill if it comes to his desk.

One Wisconsin lawmaker doesn’t want high schoolers in the state to miss out on an e-sports college scholarship. State Rep. Tip McGuire is pushing for a new state grant program to help local schools create e-sports programs. E-sports is the name for competitive video gaming that is becoming a sport at both the college and professional level. McGuire says e-sports was worth 15 million-dollars in college scholarships in 2018. He says it’s expected to be worth 100 million in scholarships by 2025.

Voters in some parts of the Chippewa Valley will see a congressional race on their ballots today. Today is the primary election in Wisconsin. School leaders in Eau Claire are waiting till the next spring election before asking for more money. The city’s school board last night approved a referendum for the April 2021 ballot. There is no price tag yet. The school board says it wants to have a few public meetings before deciding on that.
