The Wisconsin Department of Justice is looking into a deadly officer-involved shooting in Sheboygan. Authorities say an officer responded to a call of a man with two knives early yesterday morning. MAN HEADED TO HOSPITAL, NOT PRISON

The man at the center of last summer’s standoff at a Chippewa Falls motel is not heading to prison. A judge yesterday instead sentenced him to a state mental hospital for four-and-a-half years. HEAT CAUSES I-94 BUCKLE

Traffic is moving along I-94 in Dunn County after yesterday’s heat-related pavement buckle. WIS-DOT crews said the heat cracked the interstate just past the exit for Highway 25. Cars and trucks headed west had to get off the interstate and drive through Menomonie to get around the problems. It took crews about two hours to repair the pavement.

WI STATE FAIR OFFERS FOOD

Just because there won’t be a Wisconsin State Fair doesn’t mean you have to miss-out on the food. Managers at State Fair Park yesterday said there will be a State Fair Necessities drive-thru starting later this month. The idea is to let people pick-up their fair food favorites and enjoy them at home. The drive-through will be open Thursdays through Sundays for four weeks. LOCAL BUSINESS LEADERS ASK FOR MASKS

One of Chippewa Falls’ most well-known business groups is pleading with people to wear masks. The folks at Chippewa Falls Main Street yesterday said everyone should wear a face mask to try to halt the spread of the coronavirus. Main Street Executive Director Teri Ouimette says more people are testing positive for the coronavirus, and those not wearing a mask could be next. Ouimette says they are recommending that people wear masks, they are not requiring it.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER ASSAULT KIT TESTING

Backlog testing has lead to an arrest. Attorney General Josh Kaul announced that Brandon A. Darnick has been sentenced to 25 years initial confinement plus 15 years extended supervision following a guilty jury verdict in Oneida County for First Degree Child Sexual Assault – Sexual Contact with a Child Under Age 13 for an assault that occurred in 2013.   The victim’s sexual assault kit was tested as part of the Wisconsin Sexual Assault Kit Initiative in 2018. LOCAL POLLING PLACES PREP FOR ELECTION

Eau Claire is getting ready for in-person voting in August. City Clerk Carrie Riepl said 300 poll workers are signed up to work the election and some want to commit for November.  There was a shortage of poll workers in April because of the coronavirus pandemic.  Riepl said anyone wanting to work at the polls will have to attend training in mid-July.

POLK CO. MAN MISSING

A man is missing out of Polk County.  The Sheriff’s Office said 40-year-old Andre Lyons was reported missing Sunday after leaving a home near the St. Croix county line for his own home north of Amery.  Police said they haven’t found the yellow motorcycle he could have been riding, and the Department of Natural Resources searched the area with an airplane.
