With the November 3 general election rapidly approaching, many groups are reaching out to Wisconsin voters, most legitimate but some not. Some contacts may look like scams but are just groups using poorly trained volunteers or bad data. Scammers are turning to election-related tactics to try to steal your money and identity. Hospitalizations on Rise, Antibody Testing Underway

A surge in Wisconsin’s COVID-19 cases is creating a problem for the state’s hospitals. State health officials said yesterday Wisconsin is in a crisis with the third-highest positive case rate per capita in the country. That’s up from fourth last week. New WI Budget to Address Unemployment Issues

Wisconsin plans to replace its unemployment insurance claims system in the next budget. Governor Tony Evers said the state is still evaluating the system to create a better one. The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development reported yesterday, of nearly seven-million claims made since March 15th, about nine-percent were still in process. The department has taken steps to keep up with processing claims like hiring more staff, expanding hours, and upgrading some technology.

Eau Claire County is reinforcing their mission to provide cost-effective services. The county released a 2020 budget survey that asks people to rate how necessary they think some county resources and infrastructure are. County officials will consider the information to create the 2021 budget. They say it takes about five-minutes to complete.

County Recycling Hosting Bulk Item Pick Up

Eau Claire County Recycling is hosting their bi-annual bulk item pickup next week. The fall event was scheduled for the first week in October. They say the bulk item pickup days are different than normal trash collection dates, and residents should contact their hauler to find out what their guidelines are.

Investigation Underway in Pierce Co.

An investigation is underway after a missing woman was found dead in Pierce County. Police say 50-year-old Diane Peterson of Bay City was reported missing on Monday. Her body was later found in a wooded area after a search was conducted. Police say there’s no indication of foul play at this point in the investigation.

Gavel Drops, Extension Stays

An appeals court rules the due date to submit absentee ballots in Wisconsin can be extended.  The three-judge panel ruled Tuesday voters can submit absentee ballots as long as they’re postmarked by election day.  Ballots will be accepted until November 9th, six days after election day.

Kenosha Businesses Get Boost

A Kenosha non-profit is helping local businesses damaged during riots after the Jacob Blake shooting by a Kenosha Police officer.  Downtown Kenosha Inc. has already raised more than 250-thousand dollars for their cause.  That money will help business owners with structural repairs, rental assistance, and insurance claims.
