Wisconsin’s 72 counties have done their job, for now, with the 2020 election. The state’s Elections Commission yesterday verified the voter canvases from all 72 counties in the state. The Elections Commission will now move to certify the vote. The only thing that could delay that is a recount. Eau Claire is a step closer to a new ShopKo Optical and a new Chipotle on the city’s southwest side. The city’s plan commission on Monday signed off on the proposals to build new buildings at the site of the old ShopKo on Clairemont. There’s no word when work could begin, or when the new shops will open.

Eau Claire County’s sheriff has a new tool to help with search and rescues. Dennis Frandsen, the owner of Frandsen Bank and Trust this week gave the sheriff’s department a 12 thousand-dollar thermal drone. The idea is to use the drone to find people who wander off or get lost in the woods. Frandsen says he saw how well the drone worked in other communities and wanted to try it here.

There will be a lot of blaze orange across the rural parts of Wisconsin this weekend. The state’s nine-day gun deer season starts Saturday. Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources says it sold over 343 thousand gun-only hunting permits this year. The state is reminding hunters of the usual hunter safety advice, but is adding a warning about spreading the coronavirus at deer camp this year.

The state Department of Health released numbers today revealing a record 92 people died from COVID-19 in the last day.  There were nearly 71-hundred new cases reported and a positivity rate over 31-percent.  Since the pandemic began, 27-hundred-and-41 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported statewide. An investigator with the state Department of Transportation is being hailed for uncovering millions of dollars in fraudulent titles.  Joel Ingebrigston investigated a case from the DMV about counterfeit replacement titles being submitted to its customer service centers.  In addition to the fake titles, Ingebrigston recovered a half-a-million-dollars in stolen vehicles.

Dozens of movie theater operators across the state are eligible for grants announced today by the governor.  Governor Tony Evers says theaters face special difficulties accommodating customers and need help paying for cleaning and sanitizing and making improvements to ensure social distancing.  The ten-million-dollars in funding will distributed to 54 theaters across the state allowing for nearly 15-thousand-dollars per screen to help sanitize their facilities.  The money is available through the federal CARES Act.

A lucky Wisconsin Lottery winner, Adrian Tongson of Racine, claimed his $120 Million ($95.4 Million cash) Mega Millions jackpot on November 10TH. Kwik Trip on  Spring St. in Mount Pleasant sold the winning ticket for the September 15 drawing. Tongson is a regular Mega Millions player who stated, “Regardless of how much you spend, it only takes one ticket to win. That’s what won it for me.” Tongson, who didn’t realize he won the jackpot until checking his ticket weeks after the drawing, quit his job and is making plans

Eau Claire Public School Foundation has announced the endowment of a fund designed to provide an annual source of monies for emergencysituations faced by students, and their families, at Memorial High School. Greg and Claudia Niemuth started the Niemuth Family Giving Tree Fund in 2018. “It has been steadily growing, and the Niemuths recently contributed the balance needed to fully endow the fund,” said Sarah French, ECPSF Executive Director. “Once a fund is endowed, it generates annual grants for causes
