The number of people in the hospital with the coronavirus in Wisconsin continues to creep-up. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said 13-hundred-50 people are now in the hospital with the virus. Of them, 329 are in the ICU. There are four patients at the state’s overflow hospital at the state fairgrounds in West Allis.

Chancellor Rebecca Blank yesterday told 21 thousand university employees that she is choosing to furlough them in order to avoid dramatic cuts. Blank said there will be some cuts at the university, those will be announced in the next few weeks. UW-Madison is trying to recover from a 100 million-dollar-hit last spring because of the coronavirus. Blank says the furloughs will last through the first six months of next year.
Read MoreMilwaukee’s medical examiner yesterday said 2020 is the deadliest year in the city’s history. The M.E. yesterday said two weekend homicides pushed Milwaukee’s total for the year to 174. That is more than the previous deadliest year, which was 1993. The medical examiner says homicides are up 70 percent from last year, and adds that Milwaukee could possibly see 220 killings before the year is over.

The county’s first death was reported September 9. The individuals, a man and a woman, were both over 60. Each had underlying but non-life-threatening health conditions before contracting COVID-19 and their deaths were due to virus-associated complications.
