Ordinance Moves Forward to Task Force

Eau Claire County leaders are punting on the proposed health ordinance as well. The county board last night decided to send the ordinance, which would make it easier for the city-county health department to close businesses, to a task force for some study. A big family Thanksgiving could be the next coronavirus casualty in Wisconsin. The state’s DHS secretary, Andrea Palm, yesterday said people should limit Thanksgiving this year to only their immediate families. Palm said it’s necessary to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Election Clerks Prepare for Close Counts

There may be another number included in Wisconsin’s election returns next month. The state’s Elections Commission yesterday unanimously agreed to have local election managers include the number of outstanding absentee ballots in their counts. Commissioners say they want to avoid any confusion in what is expected to be a close election. Absentee ballots are due back in Wisconsin by 8 p.m. on Election Day, though some local clerks say it could take a while to count them all.

Gov. Evers Urging People to Avoid Crowds

Wisconsin’s governor says people have to stay home and stay away from crowds in order to get the coronavirus under control. Governor Tony Evers yesterday said people need to stop making excuses, and stop doing nothing. The governor said the state’s economy will tank if Wisconsin cannot get the virus under control. Another Case Pushes Back Against Crowd Limits

There’s another court case involving Wisconsin’s cap on customers. The Mix Up bar in Amery, and Pro-Life Wisconsin yesterday asked the state’s appeals court to overturn the order that puts a limit on crowds at bars, restaurants, shops, and stores across the state. The appeal is tied to a Barron County judge’s ruling that reinstated the governor’s crowd limits. The bar’s owner is asking for a ruling in the case by Friday.

9-8-8 Will Be New Designated Hotline to Help

The U.S. has a three-digit suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline thanks to U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin who co-sponsored the bill.  President Trump signed it into law this week.  People can call 9-8-8 to be directed to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline or the Veterans Crisis Line.  The suicide rate in Wisconsin is on the rise and has increased by 40-percent from 2000 to 2017.  The hotline is not yet active, but Baldwin is pushing the F-C-C to get it up

Milwaukee Sees Lines for Early Voting

The first day of early voting in Wisconsin has lines out the door at polling places.  Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says he want to make sure everyone has access to safe and secure voting.  Barrett says the early voting initiative was done in cooperation between the elections commission and the health department.  He says they have increased early voting sites from three to fourteen since the last election.  All sites will practice frequent cleaning, enforce social distancing and require masks. The Menomonie Police Department, Menomonie Fire Department, Dunn County Sheriff’s Office and UW-Stout Police Department are preparing for the first-ever Battle of the Badges blood drive this week. The Health Department is offering a free flu shot to children and youth (ages 6 months- 18 years) at upcoming community drive-thru flu clinics. Drive-thru flu clinics will be held:• Saturday, October 24th from 10am-3pm at the Augusta Community Center in Augusta • Saturday, November 7th from 10am-3pm at the YMCA Indoor Sports Center (Soccer Parking Lot) in Eau Claire. Farm Equipment Accident Results in Injury

An accident involving farm equipment serves as a reminder to slow down. It was a bit before 2:30 on Monday afternoon when the Dunn County Communications Center received a report of a car that had struck a grain auger being towed by a tractor on STH 29 near 270 th St in the Town of Lucas.
