Mailbox Crash Leads to Arrest

Eau Claire police say a person is facing charges for swerving on the road and hitting a mailbox. Police say the person left the scene and officers found them under the influence and in possession of drugs a short time later. They were arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated by drugs, possession of T-H-C, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. They were also cited for the hit and run, swerving over the center line and driving on the sidewalk.

WI Health Official Leaves Job

The woman in charge of Wisconsin’s division of public health is walking away from her job as coronavirus numbers spike. Stephanie Smiley, who heads the state’s division of public health and the bureau of communicable diseases, sent a letter to co-workers at the state’s Department of Health Services this week explaining that she is leaving her job to focus on her “health and family.” Smiley is the second top public health manager to leave DHS in the past six months. Eau Claire Health Director Warns of Local COVID-19 Spikes

The head of Eau Claire’s health department says positive coronavirus tests in the city and county are “off the charts.” Health director Lieske Giese yesterday said the county’s positivity rate is now over 18 percent. Yesterday she reported 240 new positive tests. Giese says 12 people died from or with the virus over the past week. And while most of those people are over 65 and had health conditions, she says COVID-19 is still a danger in the community. CLICK

WEC Promises Ballot Security

The head of Wisconsin’s Elections Commission says there is a paper trail for every ballot in the state. WEC administrator Meagan Wolfe yesterday the state did not have more votes than registered voters on Tuesday. Wolfe spent most of the day yesterday trying to squash what she calls misinformation. She says the more outrageous claims about Wisconsin’s vote count and vote totals are all probably false.

Halloween Parties Costing Students in Madison

It could end-up being an expensive Halloween for at least a dozen people in Madison. The city’s health department director Janel Heinrich yesterday said her office is fining 13 people who hosted Halloween parties last weekend. The fines start at one thousand-dollars per violation, and Heinrich said some houses were cited for multiple violations. UW-Madison says it’s dealing with 37 possible party violations. WI Mink Farms Hit by Coronavirus

Another Wisconsin mink farm is recovering from a coronavirus outbreak that killed thousands of their animals. The state’s Department of Agriculture yesterday said the farm in Taylor County lost 34-hundred mink. The virus in the mink can cause the coronavirus in humans. Two other farms in the county have also tested positive for the virus. One of those farms lost two thousand animals last month.

Milwaukee Sees Deadliest Year Ever

Milwaukee’s latest deadly shooting has set a record. Milwaukee Police say yesterday’s shooting of a 42-year-old man is the city’s 166th homicide of 2020. That is more than any other year on record. The old record of 165 homicides was set back in 1991. Last year there were just 97 homicides in the city. Milwaukee Police do not have a reason for the spike in killings.

Pennsylvania Count Continues

Pennsylvania’s secretary of state says officials are making sure that every vote is tallied.  Kathy Boockvar said there are still military and overseas ballots that are coming in and provisional ballots that need to be counted.  She said whatever the outcome is, she’s proud of the county officials working to get things done.  Pennsylvania is a key battleground state that President Trump won back in 2016.

WI Facing Vote Recount?

The fight for Wisconsin’s ten Electoral College votes continues.  President Trump’s campaign says it is requesting a recount in Wisconsin alleging irregularities, but did not cite any circumstances.  Because the margin of Joe Biden’s victory is more than a-quarter-percent, the losing candidate must pre-pay the estimated cost of the recount at the time of the request.  The request cannot come until after the last county reports it certified results to the state which could be as late as November 17th.  The state’s chief
