Mustangs Saddle Up for Online Learning

Menomonie High School is the latest to move classes online because of the coronavirus. The school yesterday said students will learn from home starting next Monday. The hope is to have kids back in class after Thanksgiving break.  District Administrator Joe Zydowsky says 21 teachers and staff members have tested positive for the coronavirus in Menomonie schools. St. Croix Casino Folds for Safety

Add the St. Croix Casino in Turtle Lake to the list of places taking some time off because of the coronavirus. Casino managers yesterday said they are closing for 30 days to try and stop the spread of the coronavirus. The casino will be closed starting today. The casino said on Facebook yesterday that the closure is necessary for the safety and well-being of our guests, team members and our communities.

La Crosse Red Raiders Hit Red Light

La Crosse Central High School is going to need a new team name and mascot. The school yesterday said it is retiring its Red Raider nickname. Principal Troy McDonald says it’s something they’ve been talking about for years. He said some people consider the Red Raider name culturally inappropriate. There’s no word on what the new name will be. McDonald hopes to have a list of suggestions by next January.

WI Mink Farms Hit by Virus

The latest focus on PPE and virus containment in Wisconsin is on mink farms in Taylor County. The state’s Department of Agriculture says it is monitoring the farms as they deal with a virus outbreak that is related to the coronavirus. Two farms are under quarantine, they have lost thousands of animals over the past few months. The fear is that the virus in the mink could spread to humans.

Bucky Plans to Bounce Back

The hope is that the Wisconsin Badgers will be back on the football field this weekend. Athletic Director Barry Alvarez yesterday said he hopes the coronavirus is under control enough to allow the team to play Michigan on Saturday. The Badgers missed two games because of a coronavirus outbreak on the team. Alvarez says just two players and three coaches are still battling the virus. Only one player has tested positive this week.

WI Continues to Fight COVID-19

After shattering the one-day record of COVID-19 cases on Saturday, the state has seen lower case numbers on Sunday and today.  There were over seven-thousand new cases on Saturday, but officials reported fewer than five-thousand cases Sunday and today.  Despite that data, a record of nearly 19-hundred patients are currently hospitalized for the coronavirus statewide, including 400 in intensive care.

Packers Flex Upcoming Game Time

The kickoff between the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts on November 22nd is being moved.  The original time was noon, but the NFL announced today it’s changing the time to just before 3:30 Central Time.  The Packers have dropped the last two games against the Colts who are currently 5-and-3.  The Packers have posted a 6-and-2 record.

CVTC Breaks Ground for New Education Center

Construction work on the projects approved in the Chippewa Valley Technical College spring referendum began this week with a groundbreaking at the Manufacturing Education Center on Monday, Nov. 9. EC Co. Plans for Furlough

Eau Claire County is having a mandatory furlough day this week. County officials say all offices except for law enforcement, public health, and the court will be closed. The furlough day is Friday.
