WI Lawsuit Asks Courts to Stop Elections Commission

The latest election lawsuit in Wisconsin asks the Wisconsin Supreme Court to allow Wisconsin’s state legislature to decide who won the presidential race. A group called the Wisconsin Voters Alliance yesterday asked the court to stop the Wisconsin Elections Commission from certifying the state’s vote in December, and instead allow the legislature to name Wisconsin’s electors. The lawsuit also asks the court to require Governor Evers to accept those electors and their decision.

WI Nursing Homes Hit Hard

Close to 300 nursing home residents across the state are dead from COVID-19 in the last month.  The latest report shows that 294 residents had died of coronavirus between October 12th and November 8th, up from just 28 the previous month.  The number of cases in nursing homes has also skyrocketed in the last month.  Two-thousand-130 cases were confirmed in the last month compared to 387 in the month prior.  While nursing home residents make up a small percentage of

Milwaukee Recount Turns Up Unopened Ballots

Nearly 400 unopened absentee ballots from Milwaukee’s south side are uncounted after being discovered during the recount Tuesday morning.  Election officials say the 386 ballots were not opened or counted on Election Day due to “human error” at Milwaukee’s central count.  They say the ballots were received in a timely manner and the Milwaukee County Elections’ Board has voted unanimously to count the unopened ballots.

Axe Drops on Badgers/Gophers Game

The Golden Gophers football team won’t travel to the University of Wisconsin this weekend because of COVID-19. The University of Minnesota says the football team will pause all team-related activities after nine student-athletes and six-staff members tested positive for COVID-19 in the last five days. The game is not going to be rescheduled and will be called no contest. It’s the first year since 1906 the teams won’t play a game the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Miller Park Prepares to Tap Out

The home of the Brewers will have a new name come next year, and the logo for the new name could be up around the stadium by February.  Miller Park will officially become American Family Field as of January 1, 2021.  The new name for the stadium was announced last January as part of a new 15-year partnership and naming rights agreement.  Miller Park originally opened in 2001 to replace Milwaukee County Stadium.

WI Contractor Charged with Withholding Tax Theft

A Columbus Contractor was charged with withholding tax theft. 59 year old Norman D. Vick, Jr. of Columbus, Wisconsin, owner of Norm Vick Construction, was recently charged with one count of felony theft of Wisconsin withholding taxes. According to the criminal complaint, between 2005 and 2014, Vick employed 57 employees who were subject to Wisconsin withholding tax.  During that time, more than $103,520 of Wisconsin income taxes were withheld from the paychecks of these employees.  Vick did not remit these withheld

Local Healthcare Facilities Prepare for Surge

Mayo Clinic Eau Claire is moving some COVID-19 patients into an ambulance garage as cases surge across the Midwest. The hospital filled four-beds in the garage in mid-November when they were first installed, but they haven’t been used since. A spokesperson for the hospital says the environment isn’t ideal, but it’s a comfortable and clean temporary solution, until more beds become available.

Arrest Made After Bar Brawl

Eau Claire police say a person is arrested after punching several people in a bar on the West side, including the bartender. Police say it happened last night around midnight, and the person also stabbed the bartender in the stomach with a pocket knife. Police say the person was arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting, battery and threats to police, endangering safety, felony carrying a concealed knife, and a warrant.
