WI DNR Thaws for Free Ice Fishing

You can go ice fishing without a license this weekend, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The DNR’s annual Winter Free Wishing Weekend lets people who’ve never experienced ice fishing, get the chance to do so on nearly all Wisconsin waterways. Free fishing begins Saturday and ends Sunday.

First Time Unemployment Claims on Rise

First-time unemployment claims are on the rise.  According to the Labor Department, 965-thousand Americans filed for first-time benefits last week, up 181-thousand from the previous week’s revised level.  Analysts forecast jobless claims to rise to 800-thousand.

Woman Facing Homicide Charges in Crash

Prosecutors are moving ahead with homicide charges against a woman for a deadly crash back in September. The D.A. in Eau Claire filed the charges yesterday against 64-year-old Nancy Haldeman. Sheriff’s deputies say Haldeman tried to pass a slower vehicle on Highway 12 when she smashed head-on into an SUV. Prosecutors say Haldeman acted recklessly. She faces 10 years in prison if convicted.

No matter what happens with the criminal case against the Aurora Health pharmacist who may have ruined hundreds of doses of the coronavirus vaccine, he will not be working anytime soon. The Wisconsin Pharmacy Examining Board yesterday unanimously agreed to suspend Steven Brandenburg’s pharmacy license. WI National Guard Heads to D.C.

The Wisconsin National Guard is sending troops to Washington, D.C. for Joe Biden’s inauguration. The governor yesterday ordered 500 troops from both the Army and Air National Guard to head to the nation’s capital. The Wisconsin troops are just part of a massive deployment of National Guard troops from across the country to D.C. ahead of next week’s swearing-in, and possible protests at the U.S. Capitol. Western Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind can say he’s now voted to impeach the same president twice. Kind joined Wisconsin’s two other Democrats in voting to impeach President Trump yesterday.  Jacob Blake says he couldn’t believe the Kenosha officer who shot him actually pulled the trigger. Blake sat down for an interview with Good Morning America, which aired this morning. D.A. Requests Change in Rittenhouse Case

The latest twist in Kyle Rittenhouse’ case involves bars, selfies, beers, and a request to change his bond. The D.A. in Kenosha yesterday asked a judge to modify Rittenhouse’s bond in order to keep him out of the bars. Pictures are online of Rittenhouse in a bar in Mount Pleasant earlier this month.
