Prosecutors in Wisconsin will not charge the officer involved in the Jacob Blake shooting that left him paralyzed.  District Attorney Mike Graveley said no Kenosha law enforcement officer will be charged with any criminal offense based on the facts and the law.  He added that no charges will be filed against Jacob Blake in this incident either.  Graveley said their decision was based on a review of more than 40-hours of squad video and more than two-hundred reports. Rittenhouse Enters Not Guilty Plea

The suspect charged with killing two people at a protest in Kenosha enters a not-guilty plea to all counts.  Kyle Rittenhouse entered the pleas at a teleconference court hearing in Kenosha County.  The 18-year-old from Illinois is accused of killing Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and wounding another person during unrest following the shooting of Jacob Blake by police in August.

WI Falls Short in Vaccine Distribution

Wisconsin is falling behind other Midwestern states when it comes to the coronavirus vaccine. New numbers from the state’s Department of Health Services show that less than a third of the doses sent to Wisconsin have been used. Wisconsin has been allocated 266-thousand-675 doses, as of yesterday only 85-thousand-609 had been administered. WI Republican Coronavirus Plan Moves Ahead

The Republican plan to deal with the coronavirus in Wisconsin will likely be halfway to Governor Evers’ desk by the end of the day tomorrow. An Assembly panel yesterday approved the 100-million-dollar relief package. In addition to shifting money to cover coronavirus costs, the Republican plan would push to get kids back in school, give protections to governments and some businesses against coronavirus lawsuits, and would allow visitors to head back into nursing homes. UW Wrapping Up Surge Testing

The University of Wisconsin is getting ready to end testing for the coronavirus. The school yesterday said it is phasing-out surge testing at campuses across the state. The university offered nearly 170-thousand rapid tests in November and December, and the school says about 14-thousand students tested positive for the virus. University leaders say quarantining those 14-thousand students put a serious dent in the virus’ spread on campus and in campus communities.

WI Parks in Overdrive

A lot of people went to a state park in Wisconsin last year. The state’s Department of Natural Resources yesterday said almost 21-million people visited a park in the state, that’s three-million-more than in 2019. Revenue at the state’s parks was up as well. DNR’s Chris Pedretti said annual pass sales jumped 40-percent, mainly because day passes were not available. Family Video Closing Doors

One of the last places to rent movies is closing its doors. Family Video yesterday said it will close 250 stores across the country, including nearly 50 in Wisconsin. Individual stores will close when they sell out of the last of their movies, games, and other items. Family Video was once the largest video rental store in the Midwest. It fell off because of the rise of streaming services and other at-home entertainment options.

Wausau is Kickin’ Ash

The city of Wausau is going to cut down all of its ash trees. The city yesterday said they are going to remove every single ash tree in the city over the next 15 years because Emerald Ash Borers have arrived in Wausau. City forester Andy Sims says they don’t know how long the borers have been in Wausau. The plan is to start removing trees next year.
