UWEC to Offer COVID-19 Rapid-Response Testing

Free rapid-response COVID-19 surge testing will be available to the community in February on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus. The community surge testing, which was conducted at Memorial High School the past two months, will now take place at Zorn Arena on UW-Eau Claire’s lower campus. Antigen testing for UW-Eau Claire faculty, staff and students is also being conducted at Zorn Arena, but community members will be tested at different times than the campus community. Deadly Crash Leaves a Community Mourning

We now know the name of the teenager killed in a crash heading into the weekend. Eau Claire Police responded to a crash with injury in the 1600 block of Meadow Lane on Friday, January 22nd just before 10:30 at night. Due to injuries sustained in the crash, one passenger has died. EC City Co. Health Dept. Revises COVID-19 Community Expectations

The Eau Claire City-County Health Department is releasing revised COVID-19 Community Expectations. These Community Expectations were last revised in November 2020 when we were experiencing a significant and dangerous surge in cases. The local data does still show that we need to keep up our basic safety precautions of keeping 6ft distance, wearing masks, frequent hand washing, and getting tested if experiencing any symptoms. Chetek Man Arrested After Chase

A report of stalking leads to a chase and eventual arrest. It was on Sunday, January 24th a little before 3 a.m., when the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a female that her ex-boyfriend was stalking her and following her around the City of Chetek. WI Begins Vaccinations for 65 and Older Population

People 65-and-older in Wisconsin will begin receiving COVID-19 vaccines today. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says that includes about 700-thousand people. They say the state currently gets about 70-thousand first-dose vaccines per week from the federal government. Health Teams Looking to Light Up Vaping Education

A nurse and nursing-student at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire want to educate young people about the effects of vaping, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic. The faculty-student research team plans to coordinate with local youth clubs to share virtual presentations about the short and long-term effects vaping has on the body. Eau Claire Co. Planning Fair

Eau Claire County Fair is going to take place, but it’s unknown how big it will be.  The Eau Claire County Fair Committee says they’re not sure which portions of the fair will be held, but they plan to at least provide 4-H youth exhibitions with all required COVID-19 precautions to make the events safe for everyone. Communities Rally After Deadly Fires

Two house fires in Wisconsin over the weekend claimed four lives. Three of the people who died in fires in Fort Atkinson and Blue River were children. An adult man also died in the Blue River fire. Firefighters are not saying what caused either fire. Both communities are rallying to support the families of those who died.
