Marshfield Woman Still Missing

Marshfield police are asking for the public’s help finding a missing woman.  Police have posted photos of Xiomara Santiago who hasn’t been seen for at least two weeks.  Santiago is known to have contacts in Milwaukee and police say family and friends just want to make sure she is okay.  Anyone who knows how to locate Santiago is asked to call Marshfield Police.

Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest

A traffic stop leads to a drug arrest. On March 21, 2021 Sawyer County Deputies were investigating illegal drug activity in the Sawyer County area. During the course of the investigation, a traffic stop was conducted by deputies on a 2001 Dodge Durango traveling south on County Highway F in the Town of Edgewater. As a result of the traffic stop, deputies arrested the driver of the vehicle, Kena M. Baird, 40, of Birchwood, WI.  Baird was arrested for Possession

Car Sales Safety Reminder

Eau Claire police say it could save you a 2 a.m. phone call to properly sell and register your car.  The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office says Wisconsin statutes require people who sell their car to remove the plates and notify the D-M-V of the sale.  They say doing it this way clears your name from the purchaser who may not register the car in their own name after the sale.  On Facebook, the sheriff’s office says that 2 a.m. phone call

Fairfax Pool Looks to Make Splash in 2021

Eau Claire Parks and Recreation says the Fairfax Pool will be open this summer. They’re looking for new lifeguards to take courses this spring through the American Red Cross. They say the courses are being offered at a discounted rate through the department and the Eau Claire Area School District.

Vaccination Helpline Launched

A COVID vaccine assistance hotline is now available for people who need help. Chippewa County Public Health says it can be stressful for some people to learn about the vaccine, find a location, and register for a vaccine appointment. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says residents can now call 844-684-1064. They say a call center will help people find the answers they want.

Pick Up Planned for Downtown

Downtown Eau Claire and the city Parks and Recreation department are looking for volunteers for the annual city cleanup.  The Amazing Eau Claire Cleanup is being held Saturday April, 24th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.  They say volunteers will clean up garbage, get a free t-shirt, and get the city ready for the summer.

From Search to Recovery

It is a switch from a search to a recover effort. Ed Steinacker’s family yesterday said he didn’t return from walking his dog Saturday morning, and they fear the worst. The family says the search for Steinacker is now a recovery effort. Eau Claire police and firefighters spent the weekend looking for Steinacker, even searching the river. But they have not yet found him.

To Go Cocktails On Tap for WI

Wisconsin’s bars and restaurants may soon be able to sell cocktails to go. The Wisconsin Senate yesterday approved a plan to allow for to-go wine and alcohol sales. The plan already passed the state Assembly. The idea is to help bars and restaurants make-up for some of the business that they’ve lost during the coronavirus. The proposal only allows for cocktails in original containers, so no to-go cups. The plan now goes to the governor.

DNR Reports 100 Wildfires in 5 Days

Wisconsin needs some rain, so the soggy ground is a welcome sight today.  The state’s Department of Natural Resources yesterday reported 100 wildfires across the state over the past five days. All of the fires are west and north of the Milwaukee-Madison-Green Bay triangle. DNR says many of them were in the Northwoods. DNR says dry brush and high winds made the fires and the state’s fire danger worse.

Downtown Scooters Plan Scoots Along

A plan scoots forward. The city council is considering a set of rules for the scooters, as a number of companies want to bring them to town. Deputy city engineer Leah Ness says the first rule would be a limit of just 300 scooters. She says Eau Claire doesn’t want a flood of scooters dumped on the town. There’s no deadline for when the city council could vote on new scooter rules.
