Car Sales Safety Reminder

Eau Claire police say it could save you a 2 a.m. phone call to properly sell and register your car.

The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office says Wisconsin statutes require people who sell their car to remove the plates and notify the D-M-V of the sale.  They say doing it this way clears your name from the purchaser who may not register the car in their own name after the sale.  On Facebook, the sheriff’s office says that 2 a.m. phone call could be officers asking why a car registered to you is parked in a suspicious location or involved in criminal activity.
