Lights Out For Local Joyride

A vehicle driving without it’s lights on in dark, early morning hours could interest a police officer. The Eau Claire Police Department says an officer pulled over a car doing just that around 1 a.m. Thursday. They say five kids between ages 14-and-16 were cited for curfew and turned over to their parents. The curfew ordinance in Eau Claire says no minor under 17 is allowed out without a parent or guardian between midnight and five a.m.

Self-Care Event Aims to Connect Community

An event this weekend is serving up free burgers, hot dogs, and self care. Power of Perception Inc., is hosting a free event that includes haircuts, face painting, and in the spirit of the season, COVID-19 vaccine shots. It’s Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Carson Park Pine Pavilion. The group says everyone is welcome.

 The Brewers are looking forward to their first possible sell-out crowd since 2019. Today is what the Brewers are calling ‘Re-Opening Day.’ It’s the first time in two seasons that American Family Field will be at full capacity. The Brewers didn’t have any fans in the stands last year, and have been limited so far this season. Brewers President Rick Schlesinger says it’s important for the team and the fans to get back to normal.

EC Takes a Shot at Drive-Thru Vaccines

Eau Claire’s health department is opening a drive-thru vaccine clinic. The city-county health department yesterday said nurses will offer shots on Wednesdays at UW-Eau Claire’s Water Street parking lot. There will be a second drive-thru spot on Thursday at the health department itself. Both are scheduled to be open throughout July. City Votes Against Blake Settlement

 It’s being seen as the first step toward a lawsuit against the city of Kenosha. The city council on Monday unanimously voted against a 50-thousand-dollar settlement with Jacob Blake. Blake wants the city to pay him after a Kenosha officer shot him in the back during his now infamous arrest last summer. New Route Planned for Runners

Planners for the Eau Claire Marathon are looking for a new route. The Marathon’s Emily Uelmen says the city’s decision to close the High Bridge means runners won’t be able to run the same course as in years’ past. The city closed the bridge this week because of a crack in its foundation. Uelmen says in addition to selecting a new path, the Marathon will have to be re-ceritifed in order to make it a Boston Marathon-eligible race. CLICK HERE

WI Fun Budget Gets Boost

Everything from resorts and movie theaters, to summer camps and minor league baseball teams are going to share in the latest piece of Wisconsin’s coronavirus stimulus money. Governor Evers yesterday announced a plan to spend 140-million-dollars on tourism-related grants. The biggest chunk, 75-million-dollars, will go for what the governor is calling ‘lodging grants.’ The governor says the money will help Wisconsin get back to normal.

Lawmakers Make a Buzz on Behalf of Pollinators

The state lawmakers behind a proposed ban on certain pesticides say people need to choose between a treated lawn and having bees and butterflies. Democratic state Rep. WI State Fair Planned; Tall Order, Short Staff

The Wisconsin State Fair is the latest to say it doesn’t have enough workers. Fair manager Kathleen O’Leary yesterday said the fair will trim its hours this year, so the gates will open at 11 a.m. because of Wisconsin’s worker shortage. The fair is also looking to go as cashless as it can, meaning parking will be 100-percent cashless this year.
