Lawmakers Make a Buzz on Behalf of Pollinators

The state lawmakers behind a proposed ban on certain pesticides say people need to choose between a treated lawn and having bees and butterflies.

Democratic state Rep. Lee Snodgrass and Democratic state Senator Melissa Agard yesterday introduced plans to allow the state and local governments to ban neonicotinoid pesticides. They are nicotine-based pesticides that are very popular with gardeners and forest managers because they stop bugs from eating all kinds of plants. Agard says they work too well, and kill bees and other pollinators.
