Baseball is back in Eau Claire, and there is a game today. The Eau Claire Express have a home game today at noon at Carson Park. Capacity is limited to just 50-percent. WI Budget Battle Back and Forth

There is some disagreement about federal money at the Wisconsin Capitol. Democratic lawmakers say by not spending enough in state dollars on schools, Wisconsin is jeopardizing one-and-a-half-billion-dollars in federal money. The Republicans who write the state budget aren’t so sure. They think the 500-million they’ve proposed for schools over the next two years is enough to guarantee the federal match. The sticking point is that 350-million of that 500-million isn’t going to be spent until next year.

New EC Sculpture Makes Splash

Downtown Eau Claire’s latest sculpture is something to see. A crowd gathered in Haymarket Plaza on Saturday to dedicate the new sculpture. It’s called ‘Eddies,’ as in the term for water. San Francisco artist Michael Szabo designed the sculpture. He was selected two years ago by the city and the public arts council to make a new downtown art piece.

Flags Lowered

Flags are to fly at half-staff around the state in recognition of Memorial Day.  Governor Tony Evers gave the order for flags to fly at half-staff starting at sunrise tomorrow morning.  In a statement yesterday, Evers said of U.S. service members who made the ultimate sacrifice, “They will forever be heroes.”

WI Dells Heads Into Summer with Worker Shortage

Businesses in the Dells need employees.  The summer season unofficially kicks-in this weekend but Association of Wisconsin Tourism Attractions head Tom Diehl says there aren’t enough young people looking for work in the recreation and tourism sector.  Diehl says another issue is the current enhanced unemployment payments people are receiving during the COVID-19 emergency which he says make it easier for some to just stay home.

100 Years of “PAWS”itive Work

The Dane County Humane Society celebrates its 100th anniversary.  The non profit’s Marketing chief Amy Good says a celebration event was held Wednesday at the Human Society property on Voges Road.  The group traces its beginnings in Dane County to Ida Kittleson who was the Madison mayor’s wife in 1921 who started an animal rescue effort.  Kittleson expanded the work to include other community members.  Amy Good says those beginnings ultimately led to the creation of what today has become

Airport Call Ends Safely

A call to the airport lands safely. The Eau Claire Fire Department was dispatched and responded to the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport at 3800 Starr Ave for an airplane in distress at 6:53pm on May 28th. Eau Claire Fire responded with 3 engine companies, 1 truck company, 2 ambualnces 1 Squad unit, and 2 command vehicles. While responding, the communication center reported the plane was a smaller aircraft with a 4-6 person capacity that was having difficulty with the landing

Workers at a Madison based non-profit health services provider are remembering fallen U.S. military members this Memorial Day weekend.   WPS Health Solutions employees participated in a Walk To Remember event at the company’s Monona location yesterday in honor of those military members who gave their lives to defend the country.  WPS is one of the country’s largest health care benefits administration services provider for U.S. government programs and other clients.
