Rain on the Way?

Eau Claire could get a bit of rain this week, but it isn’t likely to change drought conditions in the state. The National Weather Service says there’s about a 44-percent chance of rain Wednesday night into Thursday night. The U.S. Drought Monitor shows most of northern Wisconsin in abnormally dry or moderate drought conditions. Most of Western Wisconsin is abnormally dry.

EC Summer School Masks Optional

Beginning today, face masks are optional at summer school in Eau Claire. The school says masks are optional for all students and staff. The superintendent says there are fewer people in the building for summer school than during the normal school year, so there’s more space for students to social distance.

An Apple a Day…

Ferguson’s Orchards in Eau Claire is finished planting it’s latest apple orchard. They say it took 40-days to fill the field with more than 54-thousand Honeycrisp apple trees. Once the trees produce fruit in a few years, they say there will be at least one apple for every person in the state.

U.S. Army Has a Birthday

Today is the U.S. Army’s 246th birthday.  The history of the U.S. Army dates to June 14, 1775 when the Continental Congress met and authorized colonial riflemen be conscripted to serve a year’s time in the Continental Army.  On June 15, 1775, the Continental Congress appointed George Washington as Commander of the Continental Army.  After General Washington led the Continental Army to victory in the Revolutionary War against the British crown the fighting force became known as the U.S. Army.

Summerfest Buses a Bust

People heading to Summerfest may be on their own this year. The Milwaukee County Transit System yesterday said it is not going to run buses to Summerfest. MCTS managers say they simply don’t have enough bus drivers. The Summerfest service is one of MCTS’ most popular services. D.O.J. Investigates Case of a Deadly Fort Atkinson Fire

A little girl taken from a deadly house fire in Fort Atkinson on Friday has been found, and there has been an arrest, but there are a lot of questions that remain to be answered in the case. Firefighters say the fire, which started Friday morning, is suspicious. A man was found dead inside the home. It’s not clear if he died in the fire or was killed beforehand. Former Chief Pleads No Contest

The case against Boyceville’s former ambulance chief could go away if he repays the ambulance district just over 22-hundred bucks. Former ambulance district chief Matthew Feeney pleaded no contest on Friday to misdemeanor fraudulent data alteration charges. Prosecutors dismissed a felony theft charge. Part of the claims by investigators say Feeney bought some things for himself on the ambulance district’s credit card and then tried to cover it up by creating fake purchase orders.

Milwaukee Sees Violent Weekend

It was an incredibly violent weekend in Milwaukee. Police say 19 people were shot, and five of them were killed between Friday afternoon and late yesterday afternoon. Investigators say there were 15 separate shootings across Milwaukee. The MPD says there’s been only one arrest in all of the shootings, so far.

Gov. Evers Looks to Hold On to WI Enhanced Benefits

People on unemployment in Wisconsin will almost certainly collect larger checks until September. Governor Tony Evers said on UPFRONT on Milwaukee TV over the weekend that he will likely veto the legislation that would remove the state from the enhanced federal unemployment program. Republicans and business groups in the state say the extra 300 dollars a-week that the program provides is enough money to keep many workers at home.
