Crash Affects Travel for Hours

Traffic started moving along I-39 in Janesville about 7 o’clock last night. The Highway Patrol says a crash yesterday morning near Highway 51 closed the interstate for hours. Three semis collided, one of them caught on fire. The wreck closed both sides of I-39. Wis-DOT is reminding people to be careful as they drive through the area because of construction and tight spaces along the freeway.

Siren Snafu Under Investigation

The sheriff in Wausau is looking into what happened with the county tornado sirens Sunday night. People said the sirens went off, but it wasn’t the normal siren sound. Instead, people say it sounded like an engine revving. Marathon County’s sheriff says sirens in Wausau and Rothschild both went off. The sheriff hopes to know what happened by the end of the week.

City Councilwoman Jill Christopherson says the city is launching pop-up government events to bring the government to the people. UW Classes Set for September

The University of Wisconsin is not moving the first days of classes this year. The school says it will open on September 7th and September 8th this year. Those days just happen to fall during Rosh Hashanah this year. Rosh Hashanah is the celebration of the Jewish New Year. Some Jewish students and faculty members say they will not be in class during those days. DNR Monitors Mystery Illness in Birds

Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources wants to know if you find any dead birds in your yard. The state says it is monitoring a mystery illness that is killing or sickening birds from Indiana to Virginia. The DNR says anyone who sees sick or dead birds should alert their local conservation office. The symptoms of the mystery illness include crusty eyes and tremors. DNR says there have been a few reports of the illness in the state.

Report Claims More Wolves Taken

A new report says more wolves were killed in Wisconsin than reported by the state’s Department of Natural Resources. Three University of Wisconsin scientists are out with a report that says another 105 wolves in the state were killed either by poachers, farmers, or hit by cars since the federal government removed protections for the gray wolf. The fair is back. The Northern Wisconsin State Fair begins tomorrow at the fairgrounds in Chippewa Falls. The fair runs through Sunday. Tickets are on sale now. R.I.P Big Jake

Big Jake has passed away. The Guinness Book of World Records named Jake the world’s tallest horse back in 2010. He was born in  Nebraska, but lived on a farm in Poynette. Big Jake was big, he measured six feet-10 inches tall, and weighed 25 hundred pounds. He was 20-years-old.

Paddle Boarders Rescued in Whitefish Bay

Two paddle borders are okay after being rescued from Lake Michigan in Whitefish Bay.  Authorities got a call from a woman around 10:00 last night saying she and a friend were stranded on the lake.  Police used a ping of her cell phone and a drone from local police to locate the pair.  They were rescued by agents with the Department of Natural Resources.

Amazon’s top boss is stepping down as CEO today.  But Jeff Bezos won’t be leaving the tech giant.  He’ll stay on as an executive chair on the company’s board.  The 57-year-old is the world’s richest person, with an estimated fortune of 197-billion dollars.  He’ll be the second billionaire to complete a spaceflight this month.  He’ll blast off with his brother and an anonymous auction winner on July 20th.
