U.S. Declares Afghan Mission Over

The 20-year U.S. military mission in Afghanistan is over.  U.S. CentCom Commander Kenneth McKenzie announced the final withdrawal of U.S. troops.  General McKenzie praised the determination, grit and professionalism of U.S. troops.  He also said he was heartbroken by the terrorist attack that took the lives of 13 American troops at the Kabul airport last week.  Over the past few weeks, the U.S. removed more than 122-thousand people from Afghanistan.  That included more than five-thousand Americans.   McKenzie said there were

Barron Co. Crash Injures Two

On Monday August 30, 2021, at 8:46 a.m., the Barron County 911 Center received a call of a two vehicle accident on Hwy 48 just east of Cumberland. The Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Cumberland Police Department, Cumberland Ambulance, LMC Ambulance, Cumberland Fire Department and Life Link Helicopter all responded to the scene. The University of Wisconsin-Madison is scoring high marks with the Washington Monthly’s Annual College Guide and Rankings.  UW ranks fourth overall among national universities behind only Stanford, MIT and Duke.  Wisconsin is listed as the number one ranking National Public University.  UW is ranked in the Top 10 at number eight for Best Bang-for-the-Buck rankings in the Midwest.  Milwaukee School of Engineering ranks sixth in that category. WW2 Veteran To Be Buried In Milwaukee

A young sailor killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor will be buried in his hometown of Milwaukee.  Navy Seaman Second Class Arthur Thinnes served on the USS Oklahoma in 1941 when the battleship was attacked by Japanese planes.  Torpedoes ripped the ship apart and killed 429 crewman including Thinnes.  In 2015, his remains were exhumed for analysis and identified.  Thinnes will be buried in Milwaukee on October 15th.

Milwaukee Police Investigate Weekend Shootings

An investigation is underway after four people including three teens were shot last night in Milwaukee. Police say this happened on 41st and Lloyd. The victims are a 35-year-old woman, two 17-year-old girls, and a 16-year-old girl. All suffered non-life- threatening injuries. There’s no word on a motive or of any arrests.

Computer Issues Hit Casino

Computer problems are to blame for shutting down Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells. The casino posted on its Facebook page yesterday that it had to close for a fourth day in a row due to computer system issues. Services at Ho-Chunk’s hotel and RV Park have remained open. MN Man Injured in Buffalo Co. Crash

On Sunday, August 29th, 2021, at about 2PM the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a one motorcycle accident in the Town of Lincoln near S1979 State Highway 88. Upon the arrival of first responders, Julio Castillo, age 56 of South Saint Paul, was located laying in the northbound ditch.
