Ka-BLOOM! DNR Warns of Algae Explosion’s

It’s becoming an annual warning at this point. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources say people need to stay away from blue-green algae blooms in local lakes. Blue-green algae can make people sick, but DNR says it can be deadly to dogs. The DNR says your best bet is to just stay away all together. DNR is also asking people to report algae blooms to the state so they can be tracked.

Workforce Initiatives Set for Fall

Governor Evers’ grants to get people back to work are likely months away. The governor told reporters in Green Bay last week that he doesn’t expect the biggest part of his 130-million-dollar workforce initiative to be ready until the fall. The governor says it will take that long to find partners for the grants. The governor is offering both grants and subsidies to companies looking to hire people throughout the state. Stopped From the Sky

Some speeders are going to get tickets from troopers they never even saw. The Highway Patrol is going to be using its airplanes to clock speeders in four Wisconsin counties this week. Troopers will be monitoring Highway 35 in Pierce County and I-41/94 in Kenosha County today. They will then shift to I-39 in Portage County and I-39/90 in Dane County on Thursday.

Lost Korean War Airman Buried With Full Military Honors

A lost U.S. Air Force Korean War Airman is now buried in his hometown of Evansville.  Yesterday a ceremony was held as the remains of Airman Second Class Edward Miller were buried with full military honors in Maple Hill Cemetery in Evansville.  Miller and 51-others died when their troop transport plane went down near Anchorage back in 1952.  The plane wreckage was found in 2012 and Airman Miller’s remains were identified in 2019.

The Milwaukee Bucks are a win away from their first NBA championship in 50 years.  Giannis Antetokounmp scored 32 points Saturday night to lead the Bucks to a 123-to-119 victory over the Phoenix Suns.  The victory gives the Bucks a 3-to-2 series lead.  Game 6 of the Finals will be held in Milwaukee on Tuesday.

Urban League Receives Funding

The Urban League of Greater Madison receives funding for its Black Business Hub project.  WMSN reported Friday that the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation is giving four-hundred-thousand dollars to the Urban League for the Black Business Hub which will go up on Park Street and Hughes Place.  The building will have 76-thousand square feet in four floors available where black owned businesses can get the support and resources necessary to prosper.  Construction on the project is slated for completion in 2022.

Speeding Leads to 5th OWI

An Iowa woman picks up a 5th OWI in Wisconsin. It was on Friday, January 16th at approximately 6:40 PM a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle on State Highway 27 for a speed violation. Upon approaching the vehicle, the Trooper detected the odor of marijuana and observed the driver displaying signs of impairment. Warm Weather Warning

 A warm summer weekend perfect for swimming is on tap for much of Wisconsin but people are warned to stay away from blue-green algae.  The algae can make both you and your pet sick and it’s most often found in lakes, ponds and slow-moving streams.  The blue-green algae actually looks mostly green but it can also be a reddish-purple or brown and people can be exposed through inhaling.  Officials say most Wisconsin lakes are not tested for the algae so it’s important to check
