UWEC Goes Back to Masks

They are changing their minds about masks at UW-Eau Claire. The school on Friday said everyone, regardless of whether they’ve been vaccinated, will now be required to wear a mask while inside any campus building. Earlier this month, UW-Eau Claire said it was recommending masks, but not requiring them. Chancellor Jim Schmidt says requiring masks and offering vaccines are the best ways to try and help the university fight-off a new round of coronavirus cases.

WI Nears 6 Million Doses

Wisconsin will very likely cross the six-million-vaccine-dose mark by the end of the day. The state’s Department of Health Services says we are 10-thousand doses away from six-million. Last week, DHS reported just 36-thousand doses were handed-out. But that number is expected to rise when DHS updates its count later today. New Republican Boss Takes Over

There is a new Republican boss in Wisconsin. The state party elected Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow to the job yesterday. He replaces Andrew Hitt who left after just two years. Farrow is a former state lawmaker and will continue to serve as county executive. He takes over a Republican Party facing some very important elections next year and trailing in the fundraising race.

Deadly Crash in Taylor Co.

On August 21, 2021 at 9:28 p.m. the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an ATV accident with several people injured on CTH-M near Sailor Creek RD in the Town of Grover. Once at the scene Sheriff’s deputies found a white Mini Cooper laying overturned in the ditch , not an ATV as originally reported. A single male subject was found still in the vehicle unresponsive and two other occupants had already exited the vehicle. CPR was performed

Department of Defense Approves Fort McCoy

The Department of Defense approves Fort McCoy as a place to house Afghan refugees.  Yesterday, officials at the base east of La Crosse said the Pentagon is green lighting the request from the State Department for the military to help out with Afghan refugees.  Fort McCoy spokesperson Tonya Townsell says the DoD has authorized Fort McCoy along with Fort Bliss near El Paso, Texas and Fort Lee south of Richmond to house Afghan Special Immigrant Visa applicants and their families.

WI Lawmaker Joins Trump Rally

Wisconsin state lawmaker Robin Vos joins Donald J.Trump in a rally in Alabama.  The Republican from Burlington and the 45th U.S. President discussed election integrity in Wisconsin yesterday at the event in Cullman north of Birmingham.  Vos says he updated Trump on the Wisconsin state assembly probe which is focused on the 2020 election.  The Wisconsin State Assembly Speaker has appointed former Wisconsin supreme court justice Michael Gableman to lead the investigation.

Madison Symphony Orchestra Tickets On Sale

Tickets are now on sale for this season’s performances of the Madison Symphony Orchestra.  The tickets went on sale yesterday and are available at the Overture Center For The Arts box office on State Street.   Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative COVID-19 test result is required to attend all events at the Overture Center.

School Official Pleads Guilty

A school official pleads guilty to child pornography charges.  Yesterday, former Altoona schools superintendent Daniel Peggs pled guilty to one count of possession of child pornography.  The case stems from a picture Peggs kept of a girl he says he thought was 19 with whom he had a relationship.  Peggs claims he ended the relationship upon finding out she was only 17.  The report says the girl claims Peggs knew her age the whole time.

Construction Site Wreck Injures 2

Two people are injured after a driver loses control and hits a construction site.  Police in Madison say the wreck happened Wednesday morning on East Washington Avenue when the driver lost control.  The car went across several lanes crashing into a porta-potty that was occupied at the time at the construction site.  The person in the porta potty was  injured but is expected to recover.  Police say the driver was under the influence and was critically injured.  The driver will
