August Marks Immunization Awareness Month

August is National Immunization Awareness Month.  Health clinicians remind Wisconsin residents that it’s critical to be immunized against viruses like COVID-19 in order to limit the spread.  Currently 52-percent of residents have received at least one dose of vaccine, but you are not fully vaccinated with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine unless you receive both doses.  Just under 50-percent ofresidents in Wisconsin are fully vaccinated.

Manitowoc Woman Guilty In Boy’s Death

A Manitowoc woman faces life in prison following a guilty verdict in the death of a three-year-old boy.  The young victim suffered severe internal and external injuries in July of 2018 while in the care of Jamie Lynn Schrank and her boyfriend Eduardo Gamez.  The two were watching the boy while the parents were at work.  Following today’s verdict Shrank faces life in prison and Gamez has pleaded to chronic child neglect and will serve at least 12 years.

Some Parts of WI Reach Orange Alert for Air Quality

Several counties in Northeast Wisconsin have reached the orange level of air quality.  The air quality index is unhealthy for Marinette, Oconto, Door, Shawano, Waupaca, Brown, Outagamie, Kewaunee counties today.  The orange category means air quality is unhealthy and sensitive groups like those with respiratory or heart issues are advised to stay indoors.  Smoke from the wildfires in Canada and the western United States is the cause of the unhealthy air.

Missing Boater Recovered in Marathon Co.

The search for a missing boater in Marathon County is over. Crews found 63-year-old Jim Dolphin’s body on the Wisconsin River yesterday morning. He’d been missing since Thursday. Dolphin, who is from Wausau, went into the river while fishing. The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office says another fisherman spotted his body and reported it to authorities yesterday morning.

Instructor Killed, Pilot Injured in Crash

The FAA is looking into how and why a small plane crashed in Hartford over the weekend. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says a female flight instructor died from her injuries after the crash. A male pilot was injured but is recovering. No one is saying just what happened. The plane went down in a farm field Saturday morning a few miles from the airport in Hartford.

WI Tornado Count Climbs Again

Last week’s tornado count in southern Wisconsin is now up to ten. The National Weather Service added more tornadoes from Wednesday’s storms in Dane, Jefferson, and Waukesha counties over the weekend. The first tornado count was just three, then it grew to four last week. Forecasters say all of the tornadoes were EF-1, with winds speeds no greater than 105 miles-per-hour. There are no reports of any serious injuries from the storm, though the weather service says there were plenty of reports

WI DNR Looks for Details on the White-Tails

The state of Wisconsin wants your help in counting deer. The Department of Natural Resources yesterday launched the annual Operation Deer Watch. The idea is to count deer so the state knows how many deer can be taken during this year’s deer hunting seasons.
