All-American Music Show Arrives in Wausau

The All-American Music Show is taking center stage at the Grand Theater in Wausau.  Centerstage Band and Show Choir will perform its one show a year beginning tonight.  Covid-19 canceled the show last year and performers are eager to be back in front of an audience.  The All-American Music Show opens tonight at 7:30 at Grand Theater with performances tomorrow and Saturday night.

523 million dollars and counting!  After 36 draws, the estimated Powerball Jackpot for the Saturday, September 25, drawing has surpassed a half a billion dollars. Lowes Creek Gears Up to Host High School Cycling League

The Eau Claire County Parks & Forest Department announces that all trails at Lowes Creek County Park will be closed to the public on September 25th and 26th. The Wisconsin High School Cycling League will be hosting race events both days. Trails will re-open for all public use again on Monday, September 27th.

Woman Airlifted After Motorcycle Crash

On September 22, 2021 at approximately 5:09PM, the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a single motorcycle crash on Highway 35 a short distance north of Highway 25 in the Town of Nelson.  It was reported that the driver of the 2022 Ducati Monster, 49 year old Melinda Peasha of Plymouth, MN, was traveling northbound on Highway 35 when she went over a bridge and lost control causing her to crash. Jobless Numbers Jump Up

Weekly jobless numbers are taking a surprising jump.  The Labor Department reports 351-thousand Americans filed first-time claims for unemployment benefits last week.  That’s 16-thousand more than the previous week’s revised total.  Most analysts were expecting today’s number to come in at right around 325-thousand.

WI DHS Sees Surge in COVID-19 Cases Among Youth; Contact Tracers Needed

State health officials are urging schools and families to remain vigilant as COVID-19 cases among children are rising. The concern comes from the age group between nine and 13-years-old, which has accounted for over 15-hundred cases during the week of September 12th, and most of them aren’t eligible for the vaccine yet. Officials say when kids get sick from COVID, they spread it to family members, friends and relatives who may not be vaccinated even if they don’t show symptoms

Abuse Charges Filed Against Two Men at Fort McCoy

Federal prosecutors are pushing ahead with charges against two of the Afghans at Fort McCoy. The U.S. Attorney’s office is charging one of the men, 20-year-old Bahrullah Noori, with sexual assault of a minor. Investigators say he raped someone under 16. The second man, 32-year-old Mohammad Haroon Imaad, is charged with strangling his wife. Both men are due in court in Madison later today. Fond Du Lac Officer Remembered

Police in Fond du Lac are remembering one of their officers and calling his death a ‘line of duty death.’ The city’s police chief says 26-year-old Joseph Kurer died from the coronavirus but didn’t say how or where he caught it. Kurer joined the Fond du Lac Police Department in 2018. The chief is not offering any other specifics about Kurer’s death. His funeral arrangements are pending.

UW Enrollment Numbers Out

Enrollment is likely down at UW-Eau Claire, but it will be a while before we know just how far down. The university yesterday released its first-day-of-school enrollment figures, and there are more students only at the campuses in Madison, Green Bay, and Superior. That means enrollment is either flat or down. Overall, the university says enrollment fell just one-percent system-wide. The numbers for individual campuses will take a while.

Fort McCoy Vaccinations Reach 97%

Fort McCoy is Wisconsin’s most vaccinated community. Commanders at the fort yesterday said 97-percent of the Afghans who are living there have gotten their coronavirus shot. They’ve also been vaccinated against the measles and other diseases. There are nearly 13-thousand Afghans staying at Fort McCoy.
