Langlade Co. Confirms CWD Case

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) confirms that a deer farm in Langlade County has tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD). A positive sample from a 1-year-old doe was confirmed by the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa. All 57 deer at the 6-acre farm were already under quarantine after receiving animals from a CWD affected farm. EC Transit to Use Temporary Transfer Center

Welcome Back

It’s back to school for kids across the Chippewa Valley today. Most schools in Wisconsin are starting classes today. In Eau Claire, it means a return to a full, five-day-a-week schedule and a mask mandate. Kids in Chippewa Falls schools have a choice as to whether they want to wear a mask. Police in both communities are asking people to slow down in school zones and be aware of school buses.

Howling Begins Over WI Wolf Hunt

A coalition of animal rights groups is asking a judge to stop Wisconsin’s next wolf hunt. The groups filed a lawsuit yesterday claiming the state’s Department of Natural Resources set the quota for this year’s hunt too high and voted against the wishes of scientists and conservationists. Xcel to Charge More Green to Go Green

Xcel customers are going to pay more to cover the cost of going green. The utility yesterday said bills will go up next year by more than five dollars per-month for the average customer. Xcel’s Chris Ouellette says the price hike will go to pay for the utility’s renewable energy projects. Xcel wants to be 100-percent carbon free by 2050.

WI Vaccine Rates Tick Up

More people got the coronavirus vaccine last week. The state’s Department of Health Services says vaccinations jumped to over 68-thousand doses last week. That’s a nearly 12-thousand-dose jump from the week before and breaks the average of just over 50-thousand doses-per-week that Wisconsin has seen since July.
