Deadly Crash in Green Co.

A truck-car collision leaves three people dead.  The Green County Sheriff’s office says yesterday morning a car missed a stop sign hitting an 18-wheeler in the intersection of State highways 81 and Eleven. The three people in the car died at the scene.  The semi driver was not injured. Investigators say fog and speed contributed to the wreck.

We’re getting our first look at the new plan for Eau Claire’s Children’s Museum. Organizers unveiled their new design yesterday. The new museum will be at the corner of Barstow and Galloway streets. Museum officials say there will be more for kids to do, plus a large green space for families. The hope is to have the museum up and running by next fall.

UW Stout Hits Goal, WI Vaccinations Dip

UW-Stout has gotten its 70 for 70 celebration. UW President Tommy Thompson stopped by campus yesterday to celebrate their vaccine milestone. The university says Stout hit 70 percent vaccinated about two weeks ago. That means students at Stout are now eligible for some of the half-million dollars in scholarship money for the state’s small campuses. UW-Eau Claire is also eligible. Electing to Speak Out Against Election Investigation

The Republican state lawmaker in charge of Wisconsin’s other election investigation says she’s not happy with the latest from the state’s special election investigator. State Rep. Janel Brandtjen yesterday said former Supreme Court Justice Mike Gableman doesn’t speak for her. Brandtjen is running a parallel investigation out of her committee in the Assembly. Specifically, Brandtjen doesn’t agree with Gableman’s offer of immunity for mayors who may have broken the law, and she wants a full forensic audit of the ballots in Wisconsin.

It’s the latest snapshot of just how violent Milwaukee has become. The city’s police department says non-fatal shootings in Milwaukee are up 27 percent over the past year. MPD says 703 have been shot this year, compared to 552 from the same time last year. Acting Police Chief Jeffery Norman is blaming guns for the jump. Southwest Cancellations Hits Midwest

Southwest Airlines accounts for about half of the people flying out of Milwaukee, which means the airline’s wave of cancellations is being felt in Milwaukee. Southwest canceled more flights from Mitchell Airport yesterday. It comes after Southwest canceled several flights on Sunday. No one is saying if Southwest will cancel more flights today. The airline is blaming its wave of cancellations on weather problems, but many say pilots are calling-in sick to protest the company’s coronavirus vaccine mandate.

Add this to the list of shortages in Wisconsin. Kwik Trip says it can’t get enough plastic bottles, so it’s pausing the sale of some flavored milk. Low fat chocolate and strawberry milk in 8 ounce and 16-ounce bottles are no longer on the shelves. Kwik Trip spokesman David Niemi says the bottle maker cannot get the material to make the bottles. Man Facing Hefty Fines After Illegal Bear Hunt

A Wisconsin man is pleading guilty to illegally transporting a black bear carcass from Canada to North Dakota.  Officials report Joseph Stolarczyk reached a plea deal after being caught exceeding the Manitoba bag limit by killing two bears in the same year.  According to court documents, Stolarczyk pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of unlawful transportation of wildlife in foreign commerce, and could face a hefty 100-thousand dollar fine as well as a year behind bars.

Manitowoc Drug Bust Leads to Federal Prison

Eight men that police describe as mid-to-upper-level drug traffickers are headed to federal prison for several years.  Christopher Ramirez was handed the longest sentence at ten years for methamphetamine distribution.  Javier Vargas will serve an eight-year sentence for meth distribution and Quinton Hollis was convicted of heroin distribution and sentenced to six years.  The dealers were arrested in a drug bust conducted by the Manitowoc Metro drug unit.
