WI Officers Added to DC Memorial

Three Wisconsin officers will have their names added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC.  In a ceremony this weekend Dane County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Treadwell, Milwaukee Police Officer Matthew Rittner and Racine Police Officer John Hetland will be remembered for their sacrifice.  More than 22-thousand names are etched on the police memorial.

UW Get’s “Congrads” for Grads

 Graduation rates at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are at a record high.  Chancellor Rebecca Blank says today’s numbers are the best seen at UW-Madison and speak to the university’s educational excellence.   The university says the six year graduation rate is 89-point-two-percent and the four-year graduation rate is 88-point-five-percent.  The retention rate of undergraduates also remains high at over 95-percent from the first to the second year.

Cruz Moves Podcast Out of UW-Madison

The UW-Madison mask policy prompts the move of a Senator’s podcast to a different venue.  Texas Senator Ted Cruz was scheduled to record his podcast at UW-Madison last night but that changed after a disagreement about the university’s requirement that people wear masks indoors at all times.  UW-Madison Young Americans for Freedom hosted the event and said it was moved to the Wisconsin Masonic Center to accommodate the audience.  Cruz tweeted that the university is trying to stifle free speech.

Volunteer’s and Donations Key for Food Pantry’s

At least one food pantry is looking for more than donations this holiday season.  Ruby’s Pantry in Wausau says it needs at least two dozen volunteers to run the once-a-month food drives at their two pop-up pantry locations.  There have been a few instances when those drives had to be canceled because there weren’t enough volunteers.  Ruby’s is just one of many pantries that would welcome volunteers and they always accept donations.

Graphic Memoirist to Present on Immigrant’s View of Civil Rights Movement

The civil rights era was rife with discord. Graphic novelist Lila Quintero Weaver was 5 years old in 1961 when her family moved from their home in Argentina to central Alabama, just 27 miles from Selma.  As a young immigrant in the Jim Crow South, Quintero Weaver remembers school desegregation. The marches from Selma in support of African-Americans’ right to vote and the violence surrounding it were the “hallmark events of the region,” she said. Pizza Delivers Disorderly Conduct Citation in Marshfield

A pizza delivery turned crusty in Marshfield. The assistant manager at Domino’s, Tyrese Dickerson, reported that a customer, later identified as a 45 y/o Marshfield female was upset due to a pizza order confusion. The female caused a verbal dispute with Dickerson and Sue Fowler, a deliver driver. During this incident one specific juvenile male that accompanied the female, caused a disturbance with Dickerson and Fowler, yelling multiple profanities towards them. The juvenile was issued a Disorderly Conduct citation.

Search for WI Trail Attacker Continues

Police in De Pere say they are not giving-up on finding the man who attacked a mom along a local hiking trail last week. Police yesterday said the case is still a priority, though they didn’t have any new details to share. Investigators say the mom was assaulted at the East River Trail. There was a person of interest in the case, but there’s been no arrest yet.

Another Lawsuit Filed Against Wauwatosa Officer

There’s another lawsuit against former Wauwatosa police officer Joseph Mensah for one of his officer-involved shootings.  The family of Jay Anderson Jr. filed the new federal civil rights claim in Milwaukee. The lawsuit says Mensah had no reason to approach Anderson while he was intoxicated and sleeping in his car in a public park, late at night back in 2016. Mensah shot Anderson after Anderson reached for a pistol.  The lawsuit says Anderson was “executed.” Mensah has been cleared in

Mask Debate or Blackmail?

One Fall Creek parent says the lawsuit aimed at getting kids in schools to mask-up is essentially blackmail.
