Army Black Knights Roll into Big Red

The oldest military band in the country will play at Camp Randall.  The Wisconsin Badgers host the Army Black Knights tomorrow night and West Point features it’s band established in 1817.  That makes it the oldest continuously serving Army Band.  The Badgers are coming off a shutout win over Illinois and have a 1-and-2 record at home and a 2-and-3 mark overall.  Kickoff tomorrow is 7 p.m.

WI Pumps a Below National Average

The average price for regular gas in Wisconsin is just a penny higher than a week ago and 19-cents lower than the national average.  Triple-A says the cost of gas across the Badger State is three-dollars-and-eleven-cents today while the national average is three-30.  Drivers are paying three-oh-three in Appleton, three-oh-eight in Madison, three-oh-nine in Milwaukee and three-eleven-a-gallon in Green Bay.  The price at the pump in under three-dollars a gallon in Fond du Lac and Oshkosh.

Search for Devil’s Lake Killer Continues

It’s been a year since police found a former UW-Madison student dead at Devil’s Lake State Park. Investigators yesterday said they are not giving-up on finding 24-year-old John Schmutzer’s killer. He was stabbed to death in what police are calling a random killing. Look Up! Crane is Wisconsin’s Coolest

The coolest thing made in Wisconsin is a 140-ton crane on a barge.  Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce yesterday said the crane from Broadwind Heavy Fabrications in Manitowoc is the winner of their Coolest Things Made in Wisconsin contest. The crane beat out Kwik Trip’s glazers, an engine from Mercury Marine, and a rope shovel from Cat. In all, WMC says more than 210-thousand votes were cast during the contest.

A quick change scam usually works like this, a scammer buys something small then confuses a cashier by asking for change with a 100 dollar bill, and eventually walks away with more money than they were owed. Police in Menomonie are looking for two men who they say pulled a quick change scam at two gas stations in town. Police are warning businesses to be on the look-out.

Paper Trail, Not Jail Time Suggested

The latest plan to get tougher on catalytic converter thieves involves a paper trail, not more jail time. State Rep. Clint Moses’ plan would require scrap metal dealers in Wisconsin to ask for proof of ownership and keep records on all catalytic converters that come into their shops. Catalytic converters are very popular among thieves because of the precious metals inside. Moses says Minnesota recently adopted a similar law, and thefts there dropped.
