Both the prosecution and Rittenhouse’s lawyers ended their closing arguments yesterday, the jury will begin deliberations at nine a.m. this morning. Add a lawsuit from the Republican frontrunner for governor to the investigations into last year’s vote here in Wisconsin. Candidate and former lieutenant governor Rebecca Kleefisch yesterday asked the Wisconsin Supreme Court to remind the Wisconsin Elections Commission about its duty to follow the state’s election laws. The sheriff in Juneau County says investigators have made contact with a missing woman. Samantha Day has been missing for nearly a month. Her friends and family say they last saw her when she was dropped off at the Rustic Ridge Resort, in Friendship on October 17th. The sheriff yesterday said deputies have made contact with Day, though they did not say where she was or if she plans to return to her home.

There will be more chances to skate in Eau Claire this winter. The city’s parks department yesterday said they will be opening new rinks at Newell Park and Mitscher Park. A petition drive back in September gathered 650 signatures to bring a rink back to Mitscher Park. There’s no word when the new rinks will open, parks managers say it all depends upon the weather.

No one is guessing when kids will be back in class at Spooner Middle School. The school closed the building last week after a smell sickened a handful of kids and teachers. The school district had teams back in the building yesterday, but they say they still don’t know what is causing the odor. Middle school students are learning from home until the building reopens.

The Democratic race for lieutenant governor in Wisconsin is getting a new candidate. Milwaukee State Representative David Bowen jumped into the race yesterday. He is the third official candidate. Bowen says he has the experience and the cache to speak to younger voters of color across the state. Bowen made headlines in the summer of 2020 for leading some of the protests that turned ugly in Wauwatosa. Bowen yesterday said he’s been ‘on the front lines.’

The racial gap for coronavirus vaccines in Wisconsin continues to grow. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said just over 58 percent of people in the state have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine. But, as has been the case for nearly a year, the overwhelming majority of those people are white. DHS says two-point-six million white people in the state have gotten at least one dose, while just over 150 thousand Black people have done the same. That

The defense is giving its closing arguments in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial.  Attorney Mark Richards said his client is innocent and that the prosecution’s case has “blown up.”  Rittenhouse is accused of killing two men and injuring a paramedic in what he calls self-defense.  Richards said the people Rittenhouse shot and killed were the aggressors and his client only came to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to help people and protect businesses.  He faces reckless and intentional homicide charges and could spend the rest
