Violence Continues in MKE

It was a violent Thursday night in Milwaukee. Police say nine people were wounded in two separate shootings. The first happened about 8:30 last night near 37th and Meinecke. Five people were wounded. The second shooting happened about an hour later near 8th and Cherry. Four people were wounded in that shooting. Police are not saying anything about suspects or a motive in either of the cases.

Late Night Change in Election Review

Former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Mike Gableman late last night canceled his interviews with the mayors of Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, Racine, and Kenosha. Gableman also scaled-back his subpoena requests. The mayors of the so-called Wisconsin Five complained that Gableman’s subpoena was too broad and could not be met within two weeks. Gableman is asking for fewer documents, but the focus of his investigation has not changed.

Lawmakers Open Door on Housing Plan

Wisconsin Republicans want to make it easier for people to buy a house. A number of Republican lawmakers yesterday introduced a plan to roll back some red tape and use tax incentives to build more homes in the state. State Rep. Boat Heads to Dry Land

A custom boat maker is coming to southern Wisconsin. Governor Evers yesterday said Grand Craft Boats is relocating from Holland, Michigan and will open-up shop in Genoa City. Genoa City is a small community on the Illinois border in both Kenosha and Walworth counties. The state is offering 125-thousand-dollars in tax credits to get Grand Craft to move to the state and create 20 new jobs within three years.

Chippewa Co. Hits Vaccine Milestone; Gunderson Health System Close to Deadline

It’s a vaccination milestone in Chippewa County. Public health managers yesterday said 50-percent of people in the county are now fully vaccinated. County public health director Angela Wiedeman says it’s great to hit the mark, but she says more people need to get their shots. Wiedeman says people continue to test positive for the virus. Coronavirus Spread Slows a Bit in WI

The coronavirus spread is slowing a bit in Wisconsin. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said 17 of the state’s 72 counties have critically high coronavirus activity. Water Concerns on Tap for French Island

The Wisconsin DNR issues a drinking water advisory for residents on French Island near La Crosse.  The advisory will remain in effect indefinitely and stems from concern over chemical contamination of the drinking water linked to an increased risk of a variety of cancers and diseases.  There are plans for the state to spend more than a half-a-million-dollars a year for bottled water for the over four-thousand French Island residents.

Search Continues for Suspect

The search continues by Madison Police for a suspect wanted in connection to a deadly shooting on Labor Day.  Cops have released photos of Jeremiah Cain who is considered armed and dangerous.  He is wanted for the death of Nicholas Cooke who was found shot in a car that crashed on Acewood Boulevard.  Police say Cain has ties to the Chicago area but may still be in Madison.
