On December 1, 2021 at approximately 4:31PM, the Buffalo County Dispatch Center received a 911 call of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 35 and Highway 25 in the Town of Nelson. Flags in Wisconsin are at half-staff today in honor of an eight-year-old boy who died during the attack at Waukesha’s Christmas parade.  Jackson Sparks is the sixth person to die since the attack and Wisconsin flags have been lowered for each victim.  Sparks’ visitation will take place this afternoon at a church in Mukwonago.

Madison’s face mask mandate is staying in place for now.  On Wednesday the Dane County Board of Health voted to suspend a resolution that would’ve halted the mask requirement.  The resolution’s now postponed indefinitely in committee.

Altoona’s former superintendent will learn his fate later today. Dan Peggs is due in federal court to be sentenced in his child pornography case. He pleaded guilty back in August. As part of that deal, prosecutors agreed to drop a slew of other sex charges against him. Peggs is facing a ten year prison sentence.

The lead investigator into last year’s election says it’s clear to him that there’s a cover-up going on among the mayors of Madison and Green Bay. Former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Mike Gableman told lawmakers yesterday that the mayors of Madison and Green Bay are refusing to answer any of his questions about the Mark Zuckerberg-funded Center for Tech and Civic Life. He said he’s asked a judge in Waukesha to seize evidence from the mayors because they won’t cooperate. Gableman has

Teachers in Oshkosh schools could be getting some mental health days next year. The city’s school board will take-up the idea in February. The proposal would add two mental health days to allow teachers to ‘to decompress and recover from burnout.’ Right now the plan is to take those days from the district’s snow day reserve, and only offer them in the next school year.

It’s the surest sign yet that Afghan refugees are days away from arriving in Wausau. The city’s Chamber of Commerce yesterday asked for donations to help refugee families get on their feet. The Chamber is asking for everything from vacuums to teapots to smart phones and laptops. There is no word just how many Afghans are arriving in Wausau, or when.

Doctors are telling people not to panic over the latest reports that say there are no intensive care rooms in all of western Wisconsin. The state’s Hospital Association yesterday said there’s zero availability in the western part of the state, while the state’s Department of Health Services says 96 percent of western Wisconsin ICU beds are full. Dr. Joseph Krien with Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse says that just means hospitals in western Wisconsin can’t accept patients from other parts of the state.

There aren’t a lot of answers about the smell in Spooner’s middle school. Students continue to learn from home as the school tries to figure out what is causing an ‘epoxy-type’ smell. The school closed back on November 10th after students and teachers first reported the smell. Cleaning crews have scrubbed the school, and the district has sent samples to a lab to try and find the source of the smell. Those lab tests are due back next week.
