Public health managers in Wisconsin are asking the federal government to help manage the state’s spike in coronavirus hospitalizations. Health Secretary Karen Timberlake yesterday said Wisconsin is asking FEMA for five response teams to help treat coronavirus patients. Eau Claire is in the bullseye for the worst of tomorrow’s winter storm. The National Weather Service already has a Winter Storm Watch in place for tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night. Forecasters say Eau Claire and the Chippewa Valley could see between six and ten inches of snow. They are hoping that most of the snow falls later at night. Longtime State Senator Calls it Quits

WI Covid Cases Climb

State health officials say the seven-day average for new COVID-19 infections is at its highest in a year.  Health clinicians across the state report surging numbers of COVID hospitalizations.  The state is averaging more than 35-hundred new infections a day and there are more than 16-hundred people hospitalized.  Some medical centers say the increase in numbers is having an impact on patients who are not dealing with COVID but are finding available beds at a premium. Misinformation As a Crisis?

A resolution in Milwaukee County that would declare health misinformation a public health crisis is approved by the Health Equity, Human Needs and Strategic Planning Committee.  The resolution now heads to the full board for approval.  County Supervisor Sheldon Wasserman, who is a practicing physician, tells WTMJ-TV that false information surrounding COVID-19 is a big reason why people remain unvaccinated.  Hospitalizations for COVID number over 16-hundred patients in Wisconsin.

Wheeeee! Tubers Hit Wausau

Freezing temperatures and a chance of snow will greet tubers in Wausau this weekend.  Sylvan Hill is set to open on Saturday if conditions permit.  You have to be at least 42-inches tall to ride a tube.  The hill is in the 13-hundred-block of Sylvan Street in Wausau and opens on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Madison Considers More Body Cameras

Madison police could soon be getting more body cameras.  On Tuesday the Madison Common Council considered a resolution that would create a body-cam pilot program for police in the North District.  The city would spend 83-thousand dollars on the one-year program for nearly 50 cameras.  The common council could vote on the resolution next month.
