La Crosse Police Investigate Drive By Shooting

An investigation’s underway after a drive-by shooting near La Crosse.  Police say they were called to a house in Holman Saturday afternoon where someone had driven by and fired gunshots.  One person inside the home was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.  No arrests have been made and anyone with information is asked to call police.

Home Break-In, Standoff Leads to Arrest

A person’s arrested after a home break-in in central Wisconsin.  Police say a man broke into a person’s house in Plover Sunday afternoon and held them against their will.  Police say the suspect and the victim knew each other.  The victim was able to get away and call police.  Police say a SWAT team surrounded the house and the suspect was eventually arrested.  He’s facing several charges including kidnapping, battery, and false imprisonment.

Woman Charged In Connection With September Police Chase

A woman’s now facing charges after police say she was caught driving over 100 miles per hour with a child in her car in central Wisconsin earlier this year.  Police say a trooper pulled over the woman after she was clocked going 116 miles per hour on Interstate-90/94 near New Lisbon back in September.  Police say the trooper pulled the woman over but she took off after the trooper returned to his cruiser.  The woman got away and was never found.  Police

UW Player’s Efforts a Slam Dunk for Storm Victims

Thousands and thousands of dollars are being raised for storm victims in Kentucky thanks to a University of Wisconsin basketball player.  Chris Vogt grew up in Mayfield, Kentucky and started a GoFundMe to raise money for the people who were impacted by the storms earlier this month.  So far he’s raised over 175-thousand dollars.

Swedish Co. Turns Page on WI Paper Co.

An Ohio paper company with a mill in Wisconsin is being bought by a Swedish company.  The Verso Corporation is set to be bought by Billerud-Korsnas for a reported 825-million dollars.  Verso has a paper mill in Wisconsin Rapids.  Billerud-Korsnas says the purchase will help it continue to expand into North America.

Derecho in December Makes History

The storm that blew across the Midwest last week and impacted parts of Wisconsin is being considered a derecho.  The National Weather Service says the storm was a serial derecho, meaning it was part of a large-scale weather system.  Last week’s derecho was the first to occur anywhere in the U.S. in the month of December.  In order for a storm to be considered a derecho it must travel at least 240 miles and consistently produce wind speeds up to 58 miles

Patrol, Phone App Urges Safe Holiday Travel

Expect to see more law enforcement on Wisconsin roads this holiday season.  The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says police will be looking out for impaired drivers.  The D-O-T is also promoting the Drive Sober phone app, which allows people to find public transportation and rideshare services to get a safe ride home.

Crews Fight Duplex fire in EC

The Eau Claire Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in a duplex over night. On arrival, smoke was showing from the rear of the structure and at the roof level. Crews made entry and located firein a back hallway ceiling and bedroom ceiling area. Head On Crash Turns Deadly in Vernon Co.

 We’re waiting for more details about a deadly crash in Vernon County. It happened Saturday afternoon in Coon Valley. The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office says a driver crossed the center line and smashed into an oncoming car. The driver in the oncoming car died, four people in the car that crossed the center line were taken to the hospital in La Crosse for treatment. Congrats to the UWEC Grads!

UW-Eau Claire  did something over the weekend it hasn’t done in two years. The school on Sunday held its first in-person graduation since 2019. UW-Eau Claire says 737 graduates received a degree yesterday. Last year’s graduations were done entirely online. The school had a combined winter and spring graduation over Zoom.
