Judge Set to Hear Election Arguments

The next step in Wisconsin’s election investigation comes tomorrow. A judge in Madison is set to hear arguments from Attorney General Josh Kaul’s office into whether the state can stop former Supreme Court Justice Mike Gableman from forcing the mayors of Green Bay and Madison to sit down for interviews. Gableman has issued subpoenas in his investigation, Kaul wants the judge to toss them. This will be the first time a judge has ruled on the review of last year’s election

Pay Bump Approved for Some, Not All State Workers

Pay Bumps Approved for UW Leaders

It’s official, some of the top leaders at the University of Wisconsin are getting a lot more money. University Regents approved pay hikes of up to 32 percent for chancellors and the university president. The pay bump means UW-Madison’s next chancellor could make nearly a million-dollars a year. Opioid Settlement Money Coming to WI

Milwaukee County is in-line for 71 million-dollars in opioid settlement money. The county’s lawyer said the county’s share is about half of all of the opioid settlement dollars coming to southeast Wisconsin. The state agreed to the settlement at the end of last month. Wisconsin will be getting just over 400 million-dollars from opioid makers and some of the companies that distributed the pills. Mayor Barrett’s Set to Resign

We will soon know when Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett’s last day will be. The mayor is set to provide an update on his resignation later today. Barrett is leaving the mayor’s office to become the ambassador to Luxembourg. Once he resigns, a temporary mayor will take over until voters choose a new mayor. That election will likely come in the spring.

WI Cold Case Gets New Attention

Law enforcement in southern Wisconsin is re-opening a decades-old death investigation.  Cheryl Cady and her two children were found dead inside a home in Lodi back in 1998.  The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says all three victims died of carbon monoxide poisoning, but now investigators say they believe foul play could have been involved.  Anyone with information about the family is asked to contact the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

Silver Alert Gets Update

The State of Wisconsin unveils a new alert system for missing people who are 60 or older or have cognitive impairment.  The state says it will send out wireless emergency alerts to mobile phones for Silver Alert missing people who are on foot and have been missing for less than 24 hours.  The alerts will go out to phones within a five-mile radius between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Keep the Wreath Green Aims to Promote Fire Safety

Several communities in central Wisconsin are raising awareness to prevent house fires.  Cities such as Wausau and Stevens Point are promoting the Keep the Wreath Green Campaign, where local residents put up wreaths with green light bulbs.  Every time a house in the community catches on fire a green bulb gets swapped out for a red one.  The goal is to keep the wreaths as green as possible.  The campaign runs through New Year’s Day.

MKE Violence Sets Record

It’s official, 2021 is the deadliest year on record in the city of Milwaukee. Police say two homicides over the weekend pushed the city’s homicide total to 192. That’s two more than last year’s record setting year. Police acknowledge the spike in homicides and shootings, but don’t have any answers. Milwaukee’s new record comes about a week after Milwaukee County reported a new homicide record as well. Several cities across the country have also set new homicide or murder records
