WI Airport Looks to Land New Tourists

Marathon County approves putting up to 195-thousand dollars toward attracting new flights to the Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee The board of supervisors says it wants flights to three destinations, Orlando, Florida, southwest Florida, and Phoenix, Arizona.  The board says those locations are all in the top five of a recent study about where people go on vacation.

WI Lighthouse Added to State Register of Historic Places

A lighthouse on the Door Peninsula is added to the Wisconsin State Register of Historic Places.  The Wisconsin Historical Society says the Kewaunee Pierhead Lighthouse was added to the register of historic places because of its role in maritime transportation and commerce.  The lighthouse was built as a fog signal building in 1909 and converted into a lighthouse in 1931.

House Hunting? Mortgage Rates Poised to Jump

Previously-owned homes aren’t selling as fast.  Sales dropped by more than seven-percent in February to a rate of just over six-million units.  The chief economist for the National Association of Realtors said the coming jump in mortgage rates will make things “very interesting.”

Accidental Death Ruled in Case of Missing WI Woman

Doctors are blaming a western Wisconsin mom’s death on meth and ‘positional asphyxia.’ The autopsy for Ashley Carlson ruled her death an accident. Carlson went missing in September of last year.  Crews in both Minnesota and Wisconsin searched for her for two months. Eventually, authorities found her remains in Pine County, which is about halfway between the Twin Cities and Duluth. She was 33-years-old and a mother of four children.

Body of Missing Student Discovered

The search for a missing UW-La Crosse student has come to a sad end. Searchers say they found 25-year-old Hamud Faal’s body in the Mississippi River yesterday. He’d been missing since February 20th when he was last seen leaving a downtown La Crosse bar. Investigators say they are waiting for an autopsy to determine Faal’s cause of death.

The Green Bay woman accused of killing a man during a day of meth-fueled sex will have to undergo a psychiatric examine. A judge yesterday said there are enough questions about Taylor Schabusiness’ mental competency. She’s the woman accused of chopping a man into pieces after killing him while they were having sex. Life Sentence, No Chance of Parole For Halderson

Chandler Halderson will never leave prison alive. A Dane County judge yesterday sentenced Halderson to life in prison without the possibility of parole for murdering, then butchering his parents. Halderson spoke for the first time since his arrest yesterday, but only asked for lawyers to take a look at his appeal. Halderson had asked the judge to allow him to skip the hearing.
