EC Co. Reports Record Spike in Coronavirus Cases

Eau Claire County is reporting a record spike in coronavirus cases.  The city/county health department yesterday said the county’s seven-day coronavirus count topped 14-hundred cases.  That is double what the county saw last week, and three-times what the county was reporting two weeks ago.  Almost all of the cases are omicron cases. Gov. Evers Urges Vaccines After Biden Mandate Nixed

WI Hospitalizations Slightly Down to End Week

Wisconsin is ending the week with just over 22-hundred people in the hospital with the coronavirus.  The state’s Hospital Association yesterday said hospitalization numbers fell from their record high earlier this week.  Still, nearly 480 people are in intensive care units across the state.

Waukesha Judge Strikes Down Ballot Drop Boxes

A judge in Waukesha says the ballot drop boxes used in the 2020 election are “nice,” but he says they are not allowed in the state.  The judge yesterday said the state’s Election Commission does not have the power to allow local election clerks to use a drop box to collect people’s votes.  The judge said there are only two ways to vote in Wisconsin, in person or through the mail.  The ruling also means ballot harvesting, where people collect ballots

Mega Millionaire Still at Large

Wisconsin’s latest mega-millionaire has not yet stepped forward.  The Wisconsin Lottery yesterday said no one has claimed the 316-million-dollar Powerball jackpot from this month’s drawing.  Someone bought one of two winning Powerball tickets at a gas station in Green Bay.  The winner has until early July to claim their prize.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers grants dozens more pardons.  Evers announced 54 pardons this morning, bringing the total for his administration to 391.  Evers recently became the governor with the most pardons in Wisconsin history.

Exact Sciences Plans Over A Thousand New Jobs

 Biomedical company Exact Sciences plans to invest millions of dollars to update its Madison locations and bring in around 13-hundred new jobs.  The company says the expansion will take place over three years and cost 350-million dollars.  Expected updates include a new research center, more lab space, and more warehouse space.

WI Sees an Alarming Trend in Alcohol Deaths

Newly released mortality data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show an alarming upward trajectory of deaths directly linked to excessive alcohol use nationally.
