U.S. Snow Sculpting Championship Comes to WI

A snow sculpting championship is part of Lake Geneva’s 27th Annual Winterfest this year.  Fifteen teams from around the country will compete in the U.S. National Snow Sculpting Championship starting Wednesday February 2nd through Saturday February 5th.  The public can vote at the Lake Geneva Visitor Center and online at WITH AN EASY CLICK HERE.

Brooks Facing Over 75 Charges

Brooks is facing over 75 charges, including six counts of first-degree intentional homicide.  Yesterday he was charged with over 70 new charges of reckless endangerment.  If he’s convicted of any homicide charges he’ll spend the rest of his life in prison.

Suspected Arrested After Officer Assault

A Fond du Lac police officer is hurt after police say he was assaulted during an investigation.  Police say they were called to a break-in at an apartment late last night when they were approached by a 44-year-old man.  Police say the man suddenly attacked an officer, breaking his nose and fracturing his finger.  The suspect was eventually arrested on several charges.

Ice is Nice…Free Fishing Weekend

This weekend is Free Fishing Weekend in Wisconsin and the Department of Natural Resources is offering some ice fishing tips.  The DNR reminds anglers to dress warm and always assume no ice is 100 percent safe.  The DNR says even though fishing licenses aren’t required this weekend size and bag limits are still in effect.  After this weekend fishing licenses cost 20 dollars a year. WI DOC Suspends Visits

In-person visits at Wisconsin prisons are suspended because of coronavirus.  The Wisconsin Department of Corrections says visitors won’t be allowed in Wisconsin prisons until at least early February.  There is an exception for religious reasons and emergency workers, but visitors will need to test negative for coronavirus before entering a prison.  The Department of Corrections says about six percent of prisoners in the state have the virus.

Probable Cause Sends Man to Trial

A Madison man accused of killing a woman over the summer is headed to trial.  On Thursday a judge ruled there’s probable cause for Gregg Raether to go to trial.  He’s accused of killing Patricia McCollough back in July and using her food stamp benefits after her death.  McCollough’s body wasn’t found until September.  Raether’s charged with reckless homicide.

Deadly St. Croix Co. Crash Could Bring Homicide Charge

Authorities in St. Croix County say alcohol was a factor in a deadly wreck there.  It happened just after midnight yesterday near St. Joseph Township.  The sheriff’s office says 34-year-old Bridget Clifton died when a pickup truck driver smashed into her minivan.  Investigators say the truck driver, 39-year-old Benjamin Blietz, showed signs of impairment.  The St. Croix County District Attorney’s Office is now weighing possible homicide charges in the case.

Lawsuit Filed Before Ground is Broken

There’s a lawsuit over one of the scrapped designs for the Sonnentag Center.  Southside Holdings and Big River Education Center are suing the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, they say because the Foundation canceled their plans for a development next to the new center.  The two sold a piece of property to the university, which they say was part of a deal to allow them to develop the old Student Transit Center property.  That property is now going to become a parking

Gov. Evers Orders National Guard To Put on Scrubs

The Wisconsin National Guard is taking on a new role, as nurses in hospitals and nursing homes across the state.  Governor Tony Evers yesterday announced plans to send more than 200 troops to hospitals and care facilities across the state.  The soldiers are being trained as certified nursing assistants.  The move comes as Wisconsin saw another day of spiking coronavirus hospitalizations.  Roughly 22-hundred people are in the hospital with the virus at the weeks end.
