Mississippi River Rescue Near La Crosse

It was a rescue from the Mississippi River for a group of boaters over the weekend. The Genoa-Harmony Fire Department says crews rescued eight people and two dogs off of a stranded pontoon near the lock south of La Crosse. The boat’s motor died. No one was hurt, and everyone made it to shore.

Gas Prices Begin to Fall

Gas prices in Wisconsin are falling. Triple-A says the average price for a gallon of regular in the state is now four-dollars and 71-cents. Last Monday it was four-84. The price of diesel in Wisconsin, though, remains high. Triple-A says the average cost for a gallon of diesel is five-dollars and 52-cents. Last week diesel cost five-51.

WI Coronavirus Hospitalizations Hold Steady

Wisconsin’s coronavirus hospitalizations are holding steady. The state’s Hospital Association on Friday reported 385 people in the hospital with the virus, including 55 in the ICU. Emotions, Reactions and Demonstrations Continue Across The Union

 Hundreds of protesters demonstrated outside the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday to denounce the overturning of the Roe v. Wade abortion ruling.  A high fence was erected around the court in Washington, DC, where the crowd of protesters grew throughout the day.  Reuters says the protesters carried signs with slogans such as “Abort SCOTUS” and “limit guns, not women.”   We’ll show you different sides so you can decide. WI Democrats Gather For Party Convention

 Wisconsin Democrats gather in La Crosse for the party’s Convention.   This year,  the event at the La Crosse Center launched first off with an abortion rights rally led by Governor Tony Evers.  The Governor said any doctor charged for performing an abortion will receive clemency while he is still Governor.  Evers is running for reelection.

Social Justice Center Celebrates Milestone

Madison’s Social Justice Center is celebrating two decades of community service.  Yesterday the Center held its annual Social Justice Jubilee at the group’s location on Williamson Street.  The event is back after getting canceled the past two years over COVID concerns.  Center Director Annie Kraus says its great to have the Jubilee back since it is the Center’s most important fundraising event every year.

Ron Kind Looks To Federal Investigation of Ron Johnson

A La Crosse lawmaker wants the federal Department of Justice to investigate Senator Ron Johnson.  Ron Kind wants federal investigators to look into whether Johnson’s involvement with a list of alternate state electors to certify the 2020 election for then President Trump was a crime.  Kind says if Johnson’s actions were found to be seditious, he can’t run for office again.

Body Recovered From Mississippi River

A search for a missing man is over after his body was found in the Mississippi River.  The Grant County Sheriff’s office says 51-year old Alan Hartig’s pontoon boat floated away Thursday in Wisconsin waters of the river near Finley’s Landing on the Iowa side.  He swam out to get the boat back but he disappeared underwater in the process.  The Grant County Sheriff’s office says yesterday afternoon, Hartig’s body was recovered after a University of Dubuque helicopter pilot spotted Hartig’s body
