Old Street Has New Name

Old World North Third Street in Milwaukee has a new name. The city yesterday renamed the street North King Drive. Alderwoman Milele Coggs drove the push to rename the street, but it was not easy. Milwaukee originally wanted to rename Third Street back in the 1980s, but was met with opposition. It wasn’t until after George Floyd’s death that city leaders jump-started the push again.

New Stamps Delivered

Stamp collectors and postal customers are getting a preview of the new stamps being released in 2022.  The United States Postal Service unveiled seven new stamps to be made available over the coming weeks.  The new stamps include designs featuring the African daisy, floral geometry, American flags on barns, and Mariachi music.  Also featured on new stamps this year are Monument Valley in Utah, the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, and children’s author Shel Silverstein. Local Events to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

America is reflecting on the life of civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Junior on this national holiday commemorating his legacy.  The movement to honor Dr. King’s birthday actually began just days after his assassination in 1968.  After years of petitioning and mounting public pressure, the House of Representatives finally approved the holiday legislation in August 1983, and President Reagan signed it into law on November 2nd of that year.  Dr. King is the only American besides George Washington

Local Favorite Lost

The City of Marshfield Parks & Recreation Department announces the loss of Shadow, the gray fox, at the Wildwood Zoo. Shadow was nine years old and had lived at Wildwood since he was a few weeks old. Shadow was a favorite of visitors with his sweet, personable nature. He will be greatly missed. Halderson Trial to Resume

 It is back to court this week in the Chandler Halderson trial.  The judge sent the jury and the lawyers home last week after Halderson tested positive for the coronavirus.  Prosecutors are not quite done with their case against him.  They say he murdered, then butchered his parents last summer after his web of lies about having a job and attending college fell apart.  The jury will be back in the courtroom to hear the case starting tomorrow.

Ice Rescue in Green Bay

The latest ice rescue in Green Bay had crews pull two men off of the ice after their ATV’s went into the water.  It happened Saturday afternoon near Sugar Creek County Park.  Authorities say one man was hauling an ATV that had broken down when the ice cracked, and the ATV went into the water.  Another man arrived to try and help, but his ATV ended-up in the water as well.  The Door County Sheriff’s Office, the Coast Guard, and

WI December Tornado Count Climbs

Wisconsin’s tornado count from December is now up to nine.  Forecasters over the weekend confirmed one more tornado from the storm system that swept across the state back on December 15th.  The National Weather Service says the newest tornado touched down in Chippewa County in the Town of Lafayette, then traveled along the east side of Lake Wissota before ending in the Town of Anson.  It was an EF 0 tornado, and there was some minor damage.  No one was
