La Crosse Co. Looks to Boost Butterflies

 La Crosse County says it’s changing its mowing strategy to help the butterflies. The county yesterday said it won’t mow the grass along county highways until October. That’s when the county says monarch butterfly season ends. The plan is part of an effort by the state’s Department of Transportation to increase monarch butterfly habitats.

Rock The Riverfront Gives Back

The RCU Foundation announced that local charities will receive $27,500 following the 2022 Rock the Riverfront featuring the Charity Classic. This year’s event benefited three Veteran-focused charities that work with Veterans and their families to provide needed items and support services throughout a Veteran’s life after active service. Man Pleads Not Guilty in Workplace Shooting

The man accused of shooting and killing a coworker at a manufacturing company in Janesville will go to trial.  Kevin Todd appeared in court this morning where he pleaded not guilty and was bound over for trial.  Todd’s accused of shooting and killing one of his coworkers at Precision Drawn Metals back in April.  He’s charged with first-degree intentional homicide.

Milwaukee is named one of the top places in the U.S. to celebrate Fourth of July.  WalletHub says Milwaukee is the 15th-best city for Fourth of July celebrations.  WalletHub says Milwaukee has the tenth-best celebrations and the 19th-best attractions and activities.  Madison also makes the list at 72nd overall.  WalletHub says the top city for Fourth of July is San Francisco.

Weekend Violence Leaves Five Dead in Milwaukee

Milwaukee’s tally from its latest violent weekend is five dead. Milwaukee Police say three people were killed Friday, including a double homicide on the city’s west side. There was also a deadly shooting on Saturday, and another one yesterday. Milwaukee Police are also looking into an overnight shooting that left one person wounded.

Wisconsin is among the states that continue to react after the Supreme Court decision heading into the weekend. Madison may have had Wisconsin’s largest abortion protests. Thousands of people turned out Friday, then hundreds more turned out Saturday to speak about the end of Roe v. Minnesota Governor Opens State to WI Women

Minnesota’s governor has signed a new order that opens his state up to women from Wisconsin who want to have an abortion. Governor Tim Walz yesterday signed the order that protects abortion doctors in Minnesota from laws in Wisconsin, South Dakota, and North Dakota. Walz has said he will not allow other states to stop abortions in his state.

Gov. Promises Clemency

Wisconsin’s governor is promising to forgive any doctor who continues to provide abortions in the state. Governor Tony Evers told Democrats at their convention on Saturday that he will offer clemency to any doctor who breaks the state’s abortion law. Wisconsin is one of two dozen states where abortion became illegal when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Judge Delay’s Trial Decision

It will be at least September before we know if the trial for the teenager accused of killing Lily Peters will be tried as an adult. A judge in Chippewa Falls on Friday delayed making the decision in the case. The 14-year-old suspect is currently facing adult charges, but his lawyers may try and change that.
