Nearly 90 percent of car thieves in Milwaukee get away with it. The latest numbers from Milwaukee Police show that just eleven percent of Milwaukee’s stolen car cases last year ended with an arrest. President Biden Talks Infrastructure, Rural Internet, Great Lakes, During WI Visit

President Biden was in the Superior area today as expected and was busy promoting his domestic agenda after the State of the Union address. Green Bay Reduces Penalties for The Green

Green Bay is reducing the penalties for getting caught with marijuana.  The city council passed a resolution last night saying anyone caught with 28 grams of marijuana or less on private property will only have to pay court costs.  Getting caught in public could result in a fine of up to 500 dollars or community service.  Anyone under 21 caught with marijuana could be fined between 100 and 200 dollars for their first offense.

Local Neighborhood to “Level Up” With Containers Up

Gov. Tony Evers today announced that the City of Altoona will receive a $1.37 million grant through the Neighborhood Investment Fund grant program. The funded project consists of redeveloping blighted property in Altoona’s traditional downtown core to attract new businesses.The City of Altoona plans to partner with Containers Up, a Wisconsin based contractor hard-hit by thepandemic, that specializes in creating unique buildings from refurbished shipping containers.  Wisconsin has some of the highest property taxes in the U.S.  WalletHub says the effective real-estate tax rate in Wisconsin is one-point-eight-five percent, sixth-highest in the country.  Based on the median home value in Wisconsin, WalletHub says the average Wisconsin resident pays over 33-hundred dollars in property taxes a year.  WalletHub says the state with the lowest property taxes is Hawaii and the state with the highest is New Jersey.

Hundreds of Students Evacuated at UW Milwaukee

 Firefighters in Milwaukee say a problem with a boiler caused a carbon monoxide leak at a UW-Milwaukee dorm late Monday night that sent more than a dozen students to the hospital.  In all, more than 400 students were evacuated from the Cambridge Commons.  The students say they had trouble breathing and were feeling dizzy about 10 p.m. Monday.  Milwaukee firefighters say 17 students were taken to the hospital for treatment.  Students were allowed back into their dorms early yesterday morning
