On June 5, 2022, at approximately 1:45pm, a Lake Hallie Police Officer was on routine patrol on County Highway OO at 30th Avenue in the Village of Lake Hallie when he observed a Black Ford F250 pickup truck traveling eastbound on County Highway OO.

The officer observed the vehicle travel over the fog line then over the center line several times. The vehicle was stopped on County Highway P at County Highway OO. The officer spoke with the driver, identified as William Hiltbruner (age 49) of Chippewa Falls and detected the odor of intoxicants coming from the driver’s breath, the driver’s eyes were glossy, and an open beer can was observed on the passenger side floorboard.

It was revealed that Hiltbruner had a revoked Wisconsin driver’s license, and three prior OWI convictions. Hiltbruner voluntarily submitted to field sobriety testing but refused a preliminary breath test. As a result, Hiltbruner was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated -4th Offense, and Operating While Revoked(criminal).

The officer obtained a search warrant for Hiltbruner’s blood and was transported to the hospital for a legal blood draw.

Afterwards he was taken to the Chippewa County Jail for processing. The results of the blood test will not be known for several weeks as it will be sent to the Wisconsin State Hygiene Laboratory.
