Aluminum Spill and Fire at Fond Du Lac Business

Everybody is okay after a molten aluminum spill and fire in Fond du Lac. It happened early yesterday morning at the Mercury Marine facility. Firefighters had to use dry chemical fire extinguishers to control the flames. It took them about an hour-and-a-half to clean-up the spilled aluminum. No one was hurt. There’s no word just what caused the spill.

State Department of Ag. Lays Out Chicken Warning

There is a warning about backyard chickens and the bird flu. The state’s Department of Agriculture last week said people who are adding chickens to their flocks this spring need to stay away from chickens in Jefferson County. A bird flu outbreak there has led to a quarantine, and the destruction of over two-point-seven million birds. The state is also warning people to keep their local flocks safe by stepping-up their sanitary regiment for their birds.

Menomonie Looks to Offer More Money to Summer School Staff

Menomonie Schools are looking to pay teachers more to cover summer school this year. The plan is to offer anywhere from 250 dollars to a thousand dollars, depending on how many classes teachers take-on. Menomonie Schools say they simply don’t have enough teachers to cover all of their classes. Teachers from nearby districts can also apply for the summer school classes in Menomonie.

WI Hospitalizations, COVID-19 Cases Dip

There could be fewer than 200 people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Wisconsin by the end of the day. The state’s Hospital Association on Friday said just 201 people are in the hospital with the virus, including just 39 in the ICU. WI Lawmakers Look to Hand County Fairs a Blue Ribbon

Wisconsin lawmakers may be stepping-in to help county fair winners across the state.  The state’s Department of Agriculture, which helps pay for county fairs across Wisconsin, wants to change the rules so the state will only pay winners to win once. County fairs would have to cover the prize money for people who win at more than one county fair. One Mustard to Top It All

 We are waiting for the new World Mustard Champion. The Mustard Museum in Middleton says the submissions for this year’s contest are in, and the winners will be selected next weekend. There are 17 gold medals to be awarded for all manners of mustards. The Mustard Museum has been holding the World Mustard Championship each year since 1995.

WI 8th Grader Is a W-I-N-N-E-R

An eighth grader from Fitchburg is the winner of the 2022 Badger State Spelling Bee.  Homeschooler Maya Jadhav won by correctly spelling the geometry term “obrotund.”   Jadhav won out of a field of more than 50 students yesterday in the Mitby Theater at Madison Area Technical College’s Truax campus.  Jadhav moves on to compete in Washington, D.C. at the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee over Memorial Day week.

Flood Warning For Yellow River

A flood warning is in effect for the Yellow River at Necedah in Juneau County.  The National Weather Service forecast says the river is peaking tonight at 15-point-five feet.  The flood stage before cresting is 15-feet. The flood warning remains in effect through early Tuesday.

Voting Machines Tested at State Capitol
